Got Accepted to UCSD winter..?

Hey im a winter admit as well.

I was wondering how did everyone get winter admission with biology majors?? thought that since biology is impacted ALL winter admits cant get the biology major. i'm confused.

@hamzg: i think its if u apply for winter term its impacted, and just cuz its impacted doesnt mean u cant get in :]

No one applies for winter quarter admission. They accept you (for fall or winter quarter) and then they look at and decide which major. Winter admits aren't disallowed from impacted majors. Dunno where you heard that from.

The only difference between WINTER and FALL admits are winter admits start in winter quarter, and they are not guaranteed housing.

Actually, for the very first quarter you start, which will be winter 2010, you get last choice in enrollment. During all subsequent enrollment periods, however, you're along with the rest of the students (more units = earlier registration date).

Housing is usually the biggest gripe, but many get over it quickly. I myself got ERC housing this year, but will have to get on a waitlist again if I want to live on campus next year.

^last enrollment..even if we have sophomore status? >.<

I'm actually not sure about that. I had 44 units at the time of WI09 enrollment, exactly 2 short of sophomore status. Actually, I was supposed to have 53, but they never processed my 9 fall quarter units :(

.. and they still haven't. Hmm..

^maybe those units u took at CC didnt transfer over? nontransferable?
ahh sophomore status = 46units? mkayy i'm in then :]

Of course I made sure that the fall classes I took were transferable. It's just that it takes 6-8 weeks for UCSD to input the credits, meaning they must have processed my fall transcript really late.

And yeah, 46-90 = sophomore

I dont think status matters. They just group winter admits and transfers that enter winter quarter as new students. Continuing students pick in order of how many units they already have and new students get last pick. Its just how it is. I dunno why they distinguish between continuing and new students though.

the lack of on-campus dorm-housing is the bigger issue for me

Its not as bad as they say, its not guaranteed but its certainly very possible. I lost two of my potential roommates to on campus offers. And me and my two current roommates all received offers for on campus housing (although it was already the saturday before winter quarter started and we already decided and committed ourselves to an off campus apartment).

Does anyone know yet when we can get ourselves waitlisted?

only because i had to check when the fall 09 waitlist opens…

[UC San Diego Housing Waitlist](http://housing.ucsd.edu/waitlist.asp)

hmm i have a question
so…if u end up renting an apartment, what do u do with it over the summer?
keep it and pay rent?? or give it up? i’m guessing it depends on the roommates…

that depends on your lease. you do not have to rent it for a full year, some places might even allow you to rent an apartment month by month. it depends though on where you rent and how flexible they are. (I was a winter 09 admit and our lease started end of december of 08 and conveniently ends end of june 09.)

ohh alright , thank you :]
also, if u want to live on campus in a dorm, do u have to go on the waitlist for each quarter? 'cause that’s what i read on the form: “submit a form each quarter”
does that mean your dorms/roommates get shuffled around each quarter?

Not each quarter. I went on the WI09 waitlist and I’m living in ERC until the year ends.

I go on another waitlist for apartments next year. Sucks, but hopefully some other winter friends and I end up rooming.

i was also accepted as a winter 2010 undecided in Revelle college! so how do we know if we will be able to get dorms or not?

we don’t know if we will. we’re gonna have to get waitlisted for dorms
