I just got an e-mail from Rutgers saying to check my application status. Turns out I got admitted to the school of business and the school of engineering in New Brunswick. But there's no word on scholarship money. When do I usually hear of this? Do I need to fill out an FAFSA form online?

Sort of disappointed about the scores but I still think they are worth something. Weighted for Junior year was a 3.95 and top SAT scores are 640, 770, 730 (CR, Math, Writing).

If it's coming in the future, how much do you think I'll get? (Not sure how much it helps but my school is ranked very well in the public schools of my state)

top SAT scores are 640, 770, 730 (CR, Math, Writing).

Are you instate?

Many schools do not superscore for scholarships. And, many do not use the writing score.

What is your highest M+CR from ONE sitting??

If you have a 1410 M+CR from ONE sitting, then you have to look at Rutger’s website to see what that might qualify for. it may not qualify for much, especially if you’re OOS.

If Rutgers scholarships are competitive, then they’re going to wait and see the other applicants’ stats and then award.

How much merit were you expecting? Do you need merit scholarships to afford the school? how much will your family pay each year?

If you need merit scholarships to afford college, then you need to ALSO apply to some schools that will give you large merit for your stats.

I am in state. So tuition is around 11k since I’m doing engineering. Commuting/living at the school changes things up. But I really don’t think driving to and from Rutgers is a great idea. Roads like those often have a lot of traffic and the ride would take around 45~1 hour without traffic. Although I will be applying for the honor room and board which I heard is suppose to keep down costs if I maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher in my classes.

Unfortunately, in 1 sitting my best was 1400 for the CR math combination.

My scores weren’t ideal but a friend received a full scholarship for a 3.6 or 3.7 GPA along with a 35 on the ACT. I was expecting something decent.

@sybbie719: I saw the page. I was wondering if they just told me at some later date or whether I had to actually sign up.

You are considered for merit scholarships automatically if you apply by 12/1. The acceptance packet says they notify about scholarships Jan-April and only notify you if you get something. However, it seems last year some people were already getting notification about some scholarships 12/16,

*but a friend received a full scholarship for a 3.6 or 3.7 GPA along with a 35 on the ACT. I *

There is a big difference between an ACT 35 and a M+CR SAT of 1400. It’s all about numbers. The school has far fewer kids with ACT 35s.

Why not apply to a school or two that will give you a large ASSURED merit scholarship for your stats as a back-up in case you don’t get much from Rutgers??? There are schools that will give you full tuition or more for your SAT 1400.

Sybbie is right…according to that link, you might get a $3500 per year scholarship if you ALSO have financial need determined by FAFSA.

Do you have financial need? If you’re not sure, a rough estimate of your FAFSA EFC would be about 20-33% of your family’s gross income. If your family’s gross income is over 100k, then estimate that your EFC is about 33% of their gross income.

How much will your family pay each year?

Again, if you need/want merit scholarships then apply to the schools that will give them to for your stats.
