Got an Internship Finally!

Hello CC,

First of all, HAPPY JULY 4th. Go blow something up.

If some of you remember manofsteel's thread

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/938094-chances-internship-low-gpa.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/938094-chances-internship-low-gpa.html</a></p>

, he/she had some trouble finding an internship. I gave some insight and hope of achieving an internship. You can't believe the stress and lack of sleep I had because I wasn't able to find a internship. It took me a long time to find a internship, but I finally found it. Well, here goes my story.

I started Job searching in my fall semester, but not thoroughly enough. And then in the spring semester I was trying to find updates everyday on the jobs that were available. So, I've applied to over 200 places, and I was exhausted and tired of finding internships. But, I still kept on going till this summer eventhough most internships have started. Recently, I have had interviewed with several companies, and had no luck. But, last week I interviewed with a real estate firm, and received an internship as a Marketing Intern. I start tomorrow.

So, I encourage those who haven't found an internship to keep on trying. If nothing works out, you will know how to prepare for finding internships next year. In that thread above, I have posted some of my tactics to job searching. Good Luck and Stay Hopeful!

Congrats to you!!! Your persistence paid off! You should be very proud of yourself. Now show them how fortunate they are to have you by being on time, staying focused and working diligently. Perhaps you could end up with a position there after graduation or, at the very least, an excellent letter of recommendation.

Again, congrats!

Great job! That is some serious dedication, you deserve it.

Congratulations! I remember how happy I was to get off the phone knowing I had secured my first internship.

Hey everyone!

I wanted to bump this thread to let you know I’ve secured a internship position for this summer. I am a rising senior at University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign majoring in Finance and I have recently received a offer letter. I just wanted to let everyone who does not have an internship yet to keep on applying until you get one. It is June, but it is still not too late. Actually, you might have better chances since everyone else received offers.

If you need tips on job hunting, I have given my best pointers in this thread:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/938094-chances-internship-low-gpa.html</a></p>

I am a student with 2.91 gpa, but I have a stunning resume according to people who interviewed me. So, for those with higher gpa, you should have better chances. My purpose of getting an internship is to get as much experience as possible during the summer. So when I am looking for full time position, the employer won’t be saying what the f? did you do during the summer of your college career. On the other hand, they might think that “this kid is really serious about his future” since he worked a lot during the summer.

I know a lot of people at my school with different majors have pretty solid gpas and don’t go out and find a job. I don’t know what’s wrong with them, but with the unemployment rate skyrocketing I think it’s best to go out to work.

So for those who doesn’t have an internship yet, I know your struggling, but keep persevering! Best of luck!

Don’t be so freakin judgemental of people who did not do internships over the summer. Not everyone who doesn’t do an internship is lazy and apathetic about their future. My friend had a tough time in college with many personal problems. He got so depressed he became suicidal and lost all hope in life. He didn’t do an internship because he felt like there’s no point if he’s going to kill himself. Stop flaunting your ONE internship. I’m doing an internship, a lab job, and a supplemental research project this summer. See? I can flaunt too.

Get off your high horse and take a class in humility.

Wow, you flaunt better than me. You get a BS in flaunting.

I did not say that they are lazy and apathetic about their future. That’s what some employers might think. And also I’m talking about those people who have nothing to do over in the summer but stay in their homes to play call of duty or some other bs. Of course, I know some people have personal problems and obviously I am not talking about them. Lastly, I am not here to look down upon people, I’m just telling them to keep trying and not give up.

Everyone has their own struggles. Unfortunately CoolioC, the world isn’t so kind to reason and how your friend became suicidal and was depressed. All his future employers will see is he has no experience and has nothing relevant to offer. Axiom is just showing that even with a low GPA, you can still find an internship, something viewed as impossible on this forum.

I know this is probably a sensitive situation for you Coolio so I will stop there but if he is a close friend of yours, you need to encourage him to find something. What if he decides to live it out? I assume, he is in his early 20s. There is easily 50-60 years left in your friends life. So many good and bad things to enjoy and learn from. He shouldn’t give up so early.

Congratulations I also found my internship last week after looking for three months
