@wesleyinged! I’m also an accepted student (class of 2017!). What is the process for placement tests, especially in math and Spanish? When will they be released? Do people usually do well on them? How does it work if we also take APs in these subjects? If we don’t place into as high of a level as we think we should, how lenient are the teachers to let us take higher classes?
Thanks so much!

Hey Austin, CSS major/econ minor here. I wouldn’t worry about name recognition–by and large there’s no difference between Wesleyan vs. Vassar/Bowdoin/Haverford. not that it should matter. certainly CSS is well-known to law schools.
Wes is a bit bigger than the other schools and can accomodate more diversity (of both demographic factors and interests), which is great, but one of the effects of that is since people are involved in such different things you won’t necessarily meet every single person the school the way you might at Haverford, which has less than half the number of students. I consider this a benefit to Wes because it means there’s always new people to meet who are different and interesting, and but I would say the less ‘tight-knit’ thing is probably true. I can’t really make the decision for you but you do seem like a good fit for Wes.

and about the winter thing: I wouldn’t say it ever gets that boring, but I do agree that it’s more fun overall when the weather is nice, especially because the warm weather happens at the beginning of the year (when frosh are getting to know each other, etc. and before most academic work picks up) and the end (when theses are finished and various end of year things happen). but the cold also forces you to hang out with people inside, and it makes you appreciate the nicer weather when it finally comes.

Thanks guys, I ended up choosing Wesleyan.

I hope you still look at this thread lol. But I think I’m leaning towards Wesleyan, however I’d like to go into investment banking after college and would like to know if you know or know of anyone that has gotten into a big firm from Wesleyan? Also I’d like to know just how fun the campus is generally, I’m not the most liberal person however I am accepting and easy to get along with. Will it be hard for me to find my niche?

I think Wesleyan economic majors looking for I-banking aren’t having any problems.

What is orientation like?

For Jamaican kid…my S is graduating in 2 weeks (double major Music and Film)…one of his best buddies from Wes (class of 2012) is at Morgan Stanley or Goldman in investment banking (I can’t remember which one) and loves it! They just all met up for a “re-union” of sorts in Brooklyn…

I’m an incoming freshman and was placed in a single in the Butterfield C dorm. Will living in a single as a freshman be awful in terms of friend-making and do you know what the atmosphere of Butts C is like? Is it friendly & welcoming? Also, I know it is a mix of both freshman and sophomores, but is it predominantly one or the other or pretty much half and half?Sorry for all the questions, I’m just nervous!

Wes grads sound like they have a lot of options after just 4 years! I like that!
