Hello, I took the Math Level 2 test and got a 630. Yes it is below the average. I'm a junior (going to be a senior) and I took Pre-Cal, but I'm like a B/B+ student in that class. I used the Barron's book 9th edition but I get like scores of around 600 on the diagnostic, and I got 620 in a test from the Official Study Guide for the Math Level 1 and 2 tests.

My question is should I use a Pre-Calc textbook (I have access to some textbooks) to relearn all the topics for the test by October or November to get a score of 750+, or should I use prep books and the Official Study Guide from CB? Also, for practice tests, is it a good idea to just work on them un-timed first?

Thanks!

Either one. Don’t discount online resources like KhanAcademy and PatrickJMT, either.

It doesn’t really matter if you use textbooks or online resources or study books – you simply need to target your weaknesses. What 200 points did you miss in the Barron’s book? The 180 points from the Official Study guide? The 170 from the actual test? The topics you messed up on probably all overlap. Textbooks, YouTube tutorials, and prep books can all help you improve upon these subjects; the thing that matters is what you study, not what you study from.

As to practice tests, sure, work on one un-timed, and then when you feel you’ve done as much as you possibly can, score yourself. It’ll show you what you absolutely do not know, and then you can learn those topics. Once you’ve done that a few times, you’ll probably be scoring much higher, and then work on doing the problems more quickly. Mark the questions that were taking you too long (instead of dwelling them and wasting 8 minutes on one problem) and drill those.
