Hey CC,

I'm currently a freshman in high school (sophomore come fall). I didn't quite "slack off" on ECs this year, per se, but I definitely didn't get involved as much as I could have. Of course, I'll be making drastic amendments starting this summer, but nevertheless-- would a year of semi-inactivity hurt my chances come fall and/or spring of senior year? :\

Thanks in advance!

I don’t think so. If you join one or two new activities in a year, it won’t hurt at all. I’m starting Tennis and Debate this year (I already do Youth Court and I’m a co-president in Partners Club), so I think you’ll be fine.

Remember, colleges like to see that students pick quality over quantity for their extra curriculars. Don’t choose to do a ton of them just for college.

it is still not too late.

as a freshman you’re fine, just join some more stuff next year. Quality over quantity for sure though.

On a related note, only on cc would people “slack” on ECs…

Dude, you’re fine. You’re a freshmen. If you were a junior, this would be a greater problem (though not a ridiculous one).

But as someone already said, make sure you don’t just do stuff to do stuff. Actually enjoy all the stuff you do.

I didn’t do anything freshman year outside of sports. Don’t sweat it.
