Got Deferred....Retake SAT?

What are your scores?

My SAT 1 Scores (Highest Composite) are:
[1490/2210]
Math: 800
Reading: 690
Writing: 720 (11 essay)

My SAT 2 Scores are:
Math 2C: 770
Chemistry: 750
Math 1C: 740
Biology: 710
US History: 630

Since I'm a potential math major, I thought about retaking the math II (740)...I dunno though...You may want to take it again and focus on the reading and writing.

thanks for ur advice jon... does anyone else have any opinions?

I don't know how much it would help, but I think it would be pretty easy for you to break 700 on the CR section since you're already so close.

Also, scoring an 800 in Math IIc is scoring in the 88th percentile, I think (nobody yell at me if that's wrong!). If you are interested in majoring in math, you might try to do that...there's a fairly generous curve on math. I got a 740 on Math IIc also, though, and I'm not retaking it.

Who knows though...my friend had a 1600/2390 and triple 800s on subject tests and got deferred at Harvard. Whatever you do, definitely focus on other parts of your application as well.

You're right about the 88th percentile (which is why I want to retake it)...I got a 36 on both Math and Science on the ACT, so I should be able to get an 800!!

I am horrible at math. Absolutely HORRIBLE!!
So I was pretty pleased with a 740 because in all honesty walking about I was predicting around a 520.

Would it hurt that I'm a potential philosophy major and I have a 700 in Writing?
I usually ace that section, I have no idea what happened that day....

But my CR score is okay (750) so would that matter more?
I don't know which one has more to do with my major.

Does it even matter for me?!
I don't see a reason why the SAT should correlate with philosophy anyway lol

Will it make you feel better if you hit or top the 700 on the reading? Are you the sort of person who will worry a whole lot between now and April if you don't at least give it another shot?

Realistically, a 700 (vs. a 690) is not going to get you in (nor would an 800, standing alone). BUT maybe a 700+, combined with a great "I'm still really interested" letter, strong first semester grades, some new awards, and so forth might build the updated application you need and also leave you more confident about your applications to other reach schools. Only you can know whether it's worth going through the hell of another SAT to try to add that piece to your pile.

Good luck.

What about 800/800/690?

Dang those 5 multiple choice questions in writing. GRR!

is that a single sitting score?

its awesome anywayz though and I don't think you were deferred because of your SAT scores..

Yeah it's single sitting. I know I didn't get deferred because of my SAT - but it feels bad when I see people with like 2350+ SAT scores...(esp those with 800/800/790...only if my 6 was a 7 lol)
