Hello everyone i am a 12th grade student in usa. Recently i got my greencard and i would be moving to california in early april and i would be doing my bachelors degree there. While i am applying to university will i be considered an international student or domestic student as i have completed my high school outside usa?
12th grade student in india, not usa
Once you establish residency you will be considered as a domestic student. But why don’t you just ask the financial aid office at your college?
@Lindagaf establish residancy in what sense? i already have id card of california and bank account
You stated you are moving to California. You need to be in-state for 366 days prior to a residency determination. Where have you been living? Are your parents also moving to California? If not and you are coming for the sole purpose of an education, you will have a difficult time to establish residency.
@Gumbymom i already went to CA and lived there for almost 75 days. I was living in india and currently i am in india to complete my high school. my dad is been living in ca for almost 4 years and i m still confused whether i am international student or domestic student?
So you lived in California for 2 ½ months then left.
You will be applying in the fall for colleges?

You left to finish your education in India, for more than 42 days, so you haven’t lived in the state for 366 days. Your father has lived in California, but you haven’t.
So, according to the UC Residency rules, you are domestic for the US but for California residency, you are full fees until you’ve been in the US for 366 days after your residency determination date.
@“aunt bea” thanks for helping out. yes i would be applying this fall. The deadlines for international students and domestic students are different, so i would be applying to domestic students?
You need to double-check the deadlines with the uni’s you plan to apply to when you arrive in April. You can send an email.
