So I got hired for a summer/spring internships about a week ago. Basically I’m starting to regret my decision of accepting it. Actually, I didn’t really get the chance to accept it. The woman just told me I was hired and told me where to be for training. Is this natural? I’m not sure this is right for me…
Do you have other opportunities/experiences that you’d rather do over the spring/summer instead of this? If not, I would say to give the internship a try. If you do have other options, you have every right to respectfully decline your current internship offer, especially since you haven’t begun training yet.
I did an internship last summer that I loathed at the start; it was boring, monotonous, etc. But I stuck with it and ended up having a very enriching experience and met a lot of great people.
Hey guys pls I need advice regarding getting internships for summer.Currently I am an international student, a chem eng. Major.my gpa is 3.1 However I have no idea how to get internships. Pls can y’all advice me on tips for getting a paid summer internship. Are there some good sites that can improve my chances.thanks
Internships can be miserable. The great thing about them is that they don’t really need you so they are very lenient with your schedule. Do you have any other internship opportunities? If not, stick around at this internship for as long as you can hold out, and tell your intern supervisor that you recently got a part time job, (or more hours at your job) and you can only intern for 2 days a week, 5 hours a day. (i would recommend you stay at least 6 months, as it shows dedication, a few month internship on a resume doesn’t necessarily look good).
I strongly recommend you stay at your internship just while you are looking for another internship. When I had no work experience, it was so difficult for me to find a job/internship. As soon as I got an internship/job and had that work experience on my resume, I immediately had so many more job/intern offers.
If you find another internship, leave this internship, tell your supervisor that you have to work full time due to financial troubles and the need to pay for your bachelor’s degree or whatever, and don’t even mention this previous internship on your resume if you didnt stay for long.
If you’re in front of a computer at your internship and have a lot of free time there, take the time to research internships, apply for jobs, apply for scholarships, do homework, etc. I suggest internships.com and even craigslist. Internships.com you do have to sign up and make a profile for but I have found many internship opportunities through the site. Also look up your local government internships, i.e. I plan on law school so I recently googled “orange county legal internships” and found many internships on the orange county government website.
State senators offices are always looking for interns. Find your local state senators’ offices’ contact info and ask if they are looking for interns. It’s a fun internship, you get to meet lots of people and go to local events, the people you meet could direct you to further opportunities, and it only requires 100 hours. Regardless of what you plan to do in the future the state senate internship will look good on your resume and you can phrase the tasks you do there to suit the jobs you apply for in the future.
