Got in and not going!

I had a ton of false perceptions about Yale before I visited - New Haven was a bad city, Yale kids were nerds, everyone there was rich. All of these were dispelled, of course, with a simple campus visit.

If he/she is going to turn it down, that person should at least know what he/she is turning down. Visit.

First of all, if the son does not even qualify for FA at ALL, his fam. income is over 180k.. which means that he shouldn't feel like a fish out of water in terms of the financial situation of his family. If the family means that they qualify for some but not enough financial aid.. well, again, there are kids going to Yale on full aid if the parents make less than 60k, so he's certainly not alone.

But if the parents are really pushing the fish out of water thing, they'll probably say they don't even have/want to spend the money to bring him up for a visit, which would probably entail airfare.

I wonder if the parents lied about their son getting in at all and this is their excuse. Or I wonder if there is another reason. It would all depend on what kind of family this is.

I think Yale's yield is in the high 70's, but that number should rise because of the increased financial aid. Still, a significant number of kids will turn down Yale..

He probably didn't get in and is trying to preserve their reputation by making it sound like he got in and doesn't want to go. No parent will have a sorry face if their kid got into Yale. Pathetic really. :P

my sister goes there, and she LOVES it. just thought I'd add to the list of people who are in love with Yale.
