Got In. Can't Afford. You know how it is.

Just wanted to start a thread for people who got into awesome pre-ivy or ivy league schools and cant afford them cause this is just breaking my heart. I didn't get any financial aid or scholarship and I got into NYU. Who else?

Thanks for posting this thread. I was going to create one similar to it. This has been pretty much consuming my life the past couple of weeks /sigh.

Got into William & Mary as well as American SIS Honors. Got stonewalled by W&M’s aid office to the point where there was no way I could go without taking out 30k in PLUS loans per year. Got into American, but they said that they won’t really be granting any aid appeals since they’re pretty much drained on aid. I’m filing an appeal for an additional 10k in aid anyway and praying for the best.

I got into UT-Austin as well, and I know I can afford it, but I really hate the feel of UT and I’d just be really depressed the entire time I was there.

I’m applying to Emory and Wake Forest, but eh. Not going to get my hopes up. I qualify for the Emory Advantage, but not sure how great the Wake Forest aid is.

Not exactly Ivy/pre-Ivy’s, but somewhat close.

Honestly NYU isn’t worth the money. I’m transferring out of there now. I’m not trying to bad mouth it but the only good thing of course is living in the city. But all my classes has 200 people in it, no prof. new my name, and there are so many reqs and red tape at that institution. And don’t even get me started on the social life. I know it may upset you to not attend but just save it and I’m sure you can go to grad school at NYU (thats a much much better experience at NYU).

No FA or Scholarship? Man that’s tough, but again it’s NYU… Do you mind me asking what your family income is?

@Godric… I feel you!!! esp about UT- I got to school in IL and HATE the feeling of University of Illinois @ Champaign/Urbana even though it’s nationally ranked blah blah blah. Tough choices…those are all great schools though either way. I hope it works out for you.

I guess I shouldn’t say I got NO FA at NYU, but I guess I consider FA to actually be AID, like grants/scholarships and not to the extent where I would be graduating 100k deep already. My family told me they would be willing to help and pay for 20 of the 50,000 tuition/housing fee so the rest of the 30 would be on me for 3 years. That being said, my undergrad is psych and I need to go to grad school anyways (I’ll need to put myself through grad school) so it just doesn’t make sense to go for undergrad and be that far in debt already. NYU was my dream since I was about 12 yrs old though so it’s hard.

@ NYUtran - haha I’m at that point where hearing not so positive things makes me feel a little better about my decision. where are you transferring to? sorry NYU didn’t work out for you.
