I was wondering if anyone has ever got in while missing a major requirement. By that i mean 2nd level English, transfer level math, physical and life science +lab? Or is anyone attempting to do that this year? With pre-reqs it varies because some need a requisite class or your cc doesnt offer the pre-reqs etc.

But i just want to know if anyones got in by leaving one of those things for the spring. I have a friend who is a poli sci major and is leaving his stats to finish in spring... which i think is nutts because he has such a good shot at getting in if he just does stats in winter or something.

Is anyone doing this? Or have any of you taken this gamble and got in?

Well, I’m a Japanese major, and I am leaving my transfer level math class (statistics) for the spring. Then again, I have all my major requirements completed.

I think it depends on your major. If math has nothing to do with your major, you should be fine. For instance, my friend who is majoring in Arabic/Near Eastern Studies left her transfer level math for the spring, and she got in to UCLA. If you have a non-impacted major, I think it should be fine to leave one or two IGETC classes for the spring. Your prerequisites for your major should be completed by then, though…

However, if you have an impacted major, like Poli Sci, then I think it’s best to complete all your IGETC-required classes by winter, especially if they are also major requirements. That’s just my two cents, though.

idk maybe my admissions rep brainwashed me into thinking that it must be done, but i guess not calc and stats are both pre-reqs for my major, so i was screwed from the start lol

thanks for the reply and best of luck to you this upcoming fall! are you pumped?! i mean geez its already about to be october! but i have a feeling that march is going to be a VERY SLOW MONTH. i really just want to get this over with!

Yes, I think your admissions rep told you that because you need the transfer-level math classes for your major. But if a class is not a major requirement and you only need it for completing IGETC, it’s fine to take it in the spring. :)

You’re very welcome! Yes, I’m excited as well! September went by rather quickly for me, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that October will, too.
