So, I have a 3.53 gpa and I'm in the honors college in my school. I have done alot of volunteer work over the years and am generally an all around god citizen. Well, last week I had the biggest moral compromise ever. I stole a textbook from my school's bookstore.

No need to opine, I know I'm the scum of the earth. I dont say that flippantly, I really really am sorry and know how horrible it is that I would steal. I am sorry, please dont reiterate what I already know, that I am a lowdown, dirty scumbag. I am not really a theif, but I did something stupid, and now I am trying to recover and put my life back on the otherwise stellar track it was on before.

Well, I got caught and am being charged with a misdemeanor. I have already hired a lawyer. but, being that its the school bookstore, I am being reported to the office of student conduct as well. I was planning on transfering to GW or American... and I wonder can I still transfer if I have a corrective action from my school? I don't think I will be expelled. I'm pretty sure I will be able to come back next semester.

what do you think. can I still transfer if I have a corrective action from my school? it really was a stupid mistake and lapse of integrity.

you were trying to steal a textbook? man… i understand that things can get hard financially but stealing is not the way man. But temptations do happen, and its hard to fight it! I hope you really learned from this and just look forward and dont let it happen again. I think first, you would have to wait til your case is over… Do you know how was the item that you were trying to steal? I believe you are being charged with petty theft and you will probably get it… How old are you? If you are over 18… then it’s gonna be in your record for awhile since you might get on probation then you can expunge it after your probation. Normally if this was outside of school, i’d say you still have a chance… but because you were reported to the student conduct… it might be wise to talk to them or talk to someone at school who is knowledge able in that. When are you going to court for the trial? It would be good to find out what your lawyer can do for you.

thank you guys for not just saying I’m a scumbag. I really am sorry. I feel like my future is just slipping from my hands. I’ve been going through personal hell these past two weeks.

Yes, petty theft.

no court date set yet.

what I’ve done is I submitted my form to the office of student conduct in hopes that maybe they fill it out before they actually get a complaint. I dont know. its a long shot.

I dont want to bring it up to them just yet.

you are not a scumbag. you are a good student and your gpa and everything atests to that. you just made a wrong decision at that split second… just keep your head up. deal with what you need to deal with, and talk to whomever you need to talk to to get this all straightened up so that all your efforts wont be spoiled ^^. not the end of the world man.

i just got back my results from a formal inquiry into my student disciplinary record. clean so far. they sent my forms to the schools saying I am in good standing and have not conduct violations on record. will i have to submit another one if I get in right before entering school?

what you should do is to write the letter to explain the situation
saying something like: you bought a bunch of books. However, one book didnt get scanned and when you went outside, they physically harass you. You said you didnt do it on purpose but they didnt believe so. You can also use some fact from your financial status along with your good transcript plus a letter of good standing from the dean. make sure the dean is on your side.
dont hide just try it

I put that i have never been charged with disciplinary action, which to my knowledge is tru and the form from the office of student conduct attests to that. I also wrote that ive never been convicted of any crime as i have yet to be tried only charged and my lawyer thinks it will be dismissed anyway.

Ps. Spoke to American, they said they dont require the form from the office of student conduct. They opperate under the honor system and just take peoples word. The form is only required if there has been corrective action. Strange. They’re getting my clean report anyway.
