I’m scared of going. I was rejected from my dream school, Northeastern earlier this week and when I initially got my acceptance from Boston University yesterday, I was ecstatic. But as I looked through some student reviews about Boston University online, many people ended up hating the school, saying that the people are snobby and cold and rude, the grade deflation is awful, and it just wasn’t worth the money.
Can any BU students tell me if these things are true? I have so much anxiety about going because I didn’t get any financial aid or merit scholarships and I don’t want to waste any time or money for my and my parents’ sake. I’m stuck between going to Rutgers which I would only have to pay in-state tuition for and the much more prestigious BU.
If you are majoring in engineering, math or business, Rutgers is a fine school.
It is understandable to throw money into Cornell, CMU that type of schools, for BU or Northeastern, it truly depends,
if you come from a rich family and you like these 2 schools, go right ahead, otherwise, think twice.
After all, it is who you are that defines your future, not which school you go to.
There are all kinds of people that you’ll encounter at BU. BU is a huge school. I’m sure that you’ll find “cold, snobby, and rude people” anywhere. Grade deflation is a myth, but sometimes it depends on the class. If you’re pre-med or engineering, you’ll probably encounter “grade deflation”, or really, a lower class average than other courses.
However, you didn’t get any financial aid. BU isn’t worth the full tuition in my opinion unless you’re going there for biomedical engineering or some top, well-regarded program.
