Got into Georgetown... Can I make it into the Ivies? :D

Hello all,

Before I begin I would just like to say I am very happy to have been accepted to Georgetown through their Early Action program. However, I am unsure if they will offer enough financial aid and, at the same time, am curious to see how I would fare with the Ivies, as well as Stanford and Duke.

These are the schools I applied to:

Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
Dartmouth
Brown
University of Pennsylvania
Cornell
Duke

Stats:

SAT: 2280
SAT II: 740 (Hist) , 770 (Bio)

GPA: 4.0 UW

Hardest courseload my school offers (5 AP classes senior year)

Main ECs:

-I have started many programs at my school including student council and fundraisers.
-I also started a tutoring program at my school and volunteered for it.
-Internship with an energy initiative at my local university.
-Vice President of Student Council
-President of National Honor Society.
-Captain of my school's varsity soccer team.

I have other activities but for the sake of brevity, I'll leave them out :P

Hooks:

Low Income, First Generation College Student, from Texas (?)

School:

I go to a small private school in Texas that has just began its high school program. It has never sent anyone to an Ivy before. Pretty much all the graduates before me have gone to the local community college.

I have started a lot of things at my school. According to a few of my interviewers, I show "initiative". Is this what colleges look for?

Also, my essays are about me overcoming difficulty in my life and really going out of my comfort zone. They are compelling...or at least I hope so :D

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but I REALLY would like to hear your opinions. I am VERY curious to see how Georgetown's selectivity stacks up to these other schools. Judging from me getting into Georgetown, how much of a chance do I really have of getting into any of these schools?

Thanks in advance!!!

I would say that you have a chance at duke, upenn, cornell, brown, Princeton and Dartmouth… all of the others are high high reaches. I wouldn’t count on Stanford but there is always a chance.

Why is that? Is it because Stanford is more technology/ engineering oriented? but thanks for the input!!! I know I don’t have much of a chance at any of these schools, which is why I applied to so many of them!! XD

Stanford’s notorious (at least where I live) for being the school that values a well-rounded student. Good test scores/gpa don’t mean as much for Stanford as they do for some other top schools.

For Stanford, you’re:
GPA: good
Test scores: Essentially average (average is about 2250)
ECs: This is what I think will hurt your app. No particularly outstanding ECs.

Just my opinion. Decent shots at Duke, UPenn, Cornell, Dartmouth, but Stanford and some others are reaches.

Eh… you have a pretty good chance. Considering your GPA and SAT scores… as well as EC’S. You should be fine… (hashmi clan)

Interesting! There is something else I am curious about… How would being from Texas affect my admissions, if at all? I know people from the Northeast and California have it harder since so many people apply from there, and people from states like Montana have a slight advantage. Is being from Texas an advantage or a disadvantage, or neither?

Any other opinions? Your thoughts would be appreciated :)
