All my colleges have replied to me. I got likelys from Harvard and Yale. I am not an athlete btw. I was admitted SCEA to princeton. I am an undecided major that wants to apply to med schools. I live in NJ. All the financial aid packages will most likely be similar. Anyone have an opinion on what I should do? I am going to all three admitted students day. It is a very hard choice and im looking for insight on what to do.

What a nice situation to be in. I’m sorry I don’t have any advice on how to decide, but I wanted to say congratulations!

Oh, wait. I do have one thing to say. I’ve heard Princeton is really hard on grading. Even though you’re obviously a great student, it might be hard to have that great gpa you’ll need to get into med school. So I’d suggest picking between Harvard and Yale.

Wow. This is the best problem in the world.

I would research each one to find what sets it apart. I know that Yale has a residential college system and I think it has a slightly less pretentious feel, but I doubt the margin is all that different. Harvard is in Boston, which is a huge city next to hundreds of other colleges. Princeton and New Haven aren’t all that great town-wise, but they’re not terrible. I know less about Princeton even though my grandpa teaches there. I think that it has the strongest humanities.

I’d go with Harvard for the location
There are tons of other threads in here on “Harvard versus Yale” etc. so start digging around.

I think you should decide based on your experience during the admitted student days. Meet as many people as you can. Ask yourself which school has more of “your people.”

H over Y any day of the week. Y is located in a questionable area.

Are you a very strong student? Are your stats within the top quartile? Or are you receiving likelies because you have some other hook and your stats aren’t high for these schools.

IF your stats are NOT high for these schools AND you want to go to med school, then you may find yourself with an inadequate GPA when it comes time to apply to med school. I’ve spent some time on that “premed website” and it’s not unusual for those who get accepted to HYPs based on hooks to end up with lowish GPAs (too low for med school). There was recently a thread from such a student with a title like “Yale ruined my GPA.” Well, Yale didn’t ruin his GPA. The student just wasn’t as strong as his classmates.

I’m sorry, but this is a silly answer. There are reasons to choose one over the other, but this is a pretty minor one. You’ll be able to see for yourself.

I’m sorry, but this is a silly answer. There are reasons to choose one over the other, but this is a pretty minor one

I’m sorry, but I don’t think that is silly. the area where Yale is located can be dangerous. New Haven has one of the highest crime rates in the country. But, maybe you think concerns about student safety is silly.

I’d say you should more at the atmosphere of the different schools. If you like the idea of a more urban setting, Harvard would be a stronger pick. Princeton is in a sleepier but quiet and safe suburb area. I can’t really say anything good about Yale’s setting, New Haven… But each has its strengths and weaknesses. I don’t know specifically about its med school placement, but if you think you’ll major in the sciences, Princeton is known for having some of the strongest STEM majors of the 3. Also, does class size matter to you? Since both Yale and Princeton have more of an undergrad focus and have smaller student populations, classes will likely be smaller. All three schools have a residential college system, but I get the sense that Yale’s and Harvard’s are a larger factor in your social life. Yale is often thought to be less snobby than the other two because it doesn’t have eating clubs or final clubs (although I personally disagree with these stereotypes). In terms of social activity, some people say Yale is more social/fun than Harvard, and Princeton has a bigger party scene than both of them. Do some research and visit if you can so you get a better sense of which atmosphere best suits your personality and needs. Personally, I’m in favor of Princeton, but I think it’s hard to go wrong with any of your choices. Good luck picking.

I would go with Yale for premed. They seem happier than Harvard kids. Too much work at Princeton.

Parts of New Haven have a higher crime rate, but not the areas around Yale. Higher crime rates would be true of any city. You have to be able to differentiate between the campus and the surrounding city. There are benefits and resources available at Yale because it is in the city, which IMHO outweigh any risk factor of being in the city.

School … < 20 students … >= 50 students
Harvard … 78% of classes … 8.1% of classes
Yale … 77.2% of classes … 6.4% of classes
Princeton … 70.6% of classes … 11% of classes

Out of curiosity what are your stats?

Well, maybe your concern isn’t silly, but it’s uninformed. The area right around Yale is no more dangerous than Harvard Square, and both are pretty safe. Both Yale and Harvard are in urban environments and students must use some common sense and street smarts. OP, if you don’t possess common sense or street smarts, and don’t think you’d be able to obtain them, go to Princeton.

Actually Harvard has more crime than Yale. Go here to look up the stats:

I’m not sure if you’ve ever been to New Haven or not. But I have, and I wouldn’t classify it anywhere near feeling dangerous. It may not be as safe as UCLA, but it’s no John Hopkins or Chicago.

I really do not like putting stuff like that online. But good SAT, high rank. The usual.

I am top quartile. I don’t know what other hook i have. I am Asian. Is that a hook? But i still do not know what you mean.

I agree that Yale is very very safe; I was there last week and none of the students had any complaints.

As long as you don’t major in engineering I would suggest Harvard…

Ultimately however, its up to you. Pick the one you like best after admit weekend!

I live in New Jersey and I heard the parties are most live there. Have you ever heard of #JerzeyyBoiiz? I believe their parties are the most poppin’ and going to Princeton would have this incredible perk.
