got into letters and sciences, undeclared... want to be eng.

I think i read before that at ucsb it is difficult to get into the engineering program when you arrive as undeclared. I got off waitlist and only got into the letters and sciences (applied as chem eng).

I already sir'ed to davis. I am tempted to switch to sb just because of everything that the location can offer. Tahoe and skiing used to be a main priority for me except now I don't think i'll be able to get up there because it's like 2 hours away. I got into davis for chem eng though and was wondering if it makes much of difference to go to sb as undeclared when eventually i may want to become a chem eng major?

I actually am not too set on chem eng, but it seems good for whatever reason. I really don't know why i even applied to my schools with it since i only know a bit about it lol

Pretty sure our chemE program tops Davis’s easily, but yes it is hard to get into engineering after two years because many spots are held for transfer students. The best you can do is do all the pre-reqs and apply for it, and possibly getting to know the college more. If you’re not set on chemE, then maybe coming in as undeclared isn’t such a bad idea. I’ve got plenty of friends coming in wanting to be in the eng. college and change their minds after. Still got a chance, of course to get in. Good luck on your decision!

Here is a ranking by U.S. news for graduate engineering programs(don’t believe they rank undergrads)

How about applying during the winter quarter?

^I don’t know how that works.

so I am thinking, I never got an email about my waitlist status… I had to go on the ucsb site to check myself. whats up with that? did everyone do that?

I have a crazy idea that they never sent an email because it is not the major I wanted. They will eventually put me in the major I applied as when the date gets closer. Lol, hopeful and improbable idea. But I don’t know why they didn’t email me at all. Not everyone checks every college’s site they applied to.

They don’t, but they should. Just be grateful they let us in, having over 55,000 applicants and being one of the 20,000 should be good news. Its your responsibility to check your status, they’ve e-mailed about that before.
