i could see myself at my safety actually- i jsut know there are places i’d prefer to go to
i applied because both my dad and sister went there and it was a decent school which i could get in easily
and if i dont get anywhere else i will go there and be fine
dont understand why this guy is attacking me

That’s good. I hope you end up with plenty of options.

I’m not sure what the attacks were about either. I rarely post in this forum so figured maybe y’all “knew” each other and that there was bad blood. I read some of your past posts and you don’t seem like Too much of a jerk! : D j/k

Well, if you can see yourself at the safety- and not just because you’re a legacy- then your safety not being your first choice is fine and dandy. Just don’t dismiss their acceptance letter quite yet.

OP, you said you’d never go there in the first place and actually felt bad about being accepted, but then you said you’d be fine attending if your ideal plans don’t work out (in which case there should be no such feelings). Are you talking about the same schools?
I think that confusion was the source of the “attacks,” if you will; everyone assumed that you just applied to a school for the hell of it and had taken a spot away from another applicant.

In your second post, it doesn’t appear that you “got into my safety: feel bad” (title of thread). It sounds like you would “go there and be fine”.

So what’s the point of the thread? Not sure what you’re trying to say.

The point of a safety school is to have a back up plan in case your Ivy League/selective colleges turn you away. A good safety is one where you would be happy going to. If you applied somewhere that you would NEVER go to, you made a poor choice of safety school.

Don’t blow off your safeties, if you do you’ll end up devastated if you end up snubbed by your elite reaches and “match” schools.

I actually like some of my safeties more than some of my match/reach schools, so I may have a tough decision, especially if I can get some merit $.

I believe what the OP is trying to say is that he applied to his safety because the school matched all the safety criteria (roughly the same as his matches and reaches, but lower selectivity). And he feels bad because if he gets accepted somewhere else, he will definitely attend that other school, not the safety.

He’s not bashing the safety, or laughing, he’s just feeling bad because he may have taken the place of someone else simply because the school was a safety.

I don’t understand the attacks on the OP, either. He doesn’t come off as a jerk in any of his posts in this thread, but maybe that’s just me.

@OP: I wish you luck in your admissions process as a fellow college applicant. Good luck in all of your future endeavours, and don’t worry about the people on CC saying you’re a dick or whatever!

P.S.: I considered applying to my safety for the exact same reason as the OP. I was a legacy, it was a decent school that I could see myself at, and could easily get in, but there were other schools I would rather go to. In the end, I didn’t apply because of an ED acceptance to another school.

It’s normal not to like your safety. Just hope you get into your first choices. I remember saying the same thing last year, then I ended up taking my backup (which by the way was many of friends’ first choice). It was a great school, but I started to sink because it didn’t fit me. Now, I’m reapplying to colleges for freshman admission (it’s a long story).
Good luck with your other choices!

Can you apply for freshman admission if you have gone to college for some time? or is it transfer??

This rings true. While I did get into schools that were significantly better than my (now) alma mater, my parents failed to tell me at the time of applying that there’s no way they could afford out of state college and I wasn’t about to take out 100k in loans for undergrad.

zfox001 : I’m thinking that would be the definition of “transfer.”

My safety is University of Washington, and actually the more I’ve read about it the more I want to go. When I started applying, I told myself I would go anywhere but UW, but now I prefer it over many of my other choices. Sometimes your safety can grow on you heh

No, it wouldn’t be transfer admissions. I withdrew before first semester ended because my backup didn’t grow up on me. I didn’t feel motivated to go on at that college (a top public university). I called a few colleges and they said that I would be considered for freshman admission because I didn’t earn any units from my first semester (which I did not complete). It’s risky, but getting into most of my college choices would help me move on to pursue my studies elsewhere.

nhsharvard, weren’t you at berkeley? i think i remember you posting stuff about how you didn’t enjoy your experience and am glad you took control of it. Good luck.

@ richan90: i feel the exact same way. what are your other schools?

My safety school was the only school I got into, and I honestly thought I had a chance at most of the school I had applied to.
And, as for whether you can apply as a transfer student or not, the application type depends on how many credits you have earned. Usually you can apply as a transfer student if you have 27-30 hours, depending on where you apply. On the other hand, these credits have to be transferable…

nooob, yes, I was at Berkeley. I felt relieved once I made my decision because I knew that pursuing my studies in a better fitting college would be better. Thanks. Good luck to you, too.

hey you can apply as a freshman even if you started college??

are you sure?

just curious…

Yes, it’s possible to apply as a freshman depending on the college. I called each college about it and specifically asked regional admissions officers about it. For example, Princeton would not allow me to apply while Yale and Brown would allow me to apply. I might be the only person in the nation or even world who did this this year, but I did it to get a second chance on getting into my first choice colleges, which is most of my list. They are mostly reach/high match colleges, so I’m hoping for an acceptance.

thanks!

good luck with your apps!
