I had some family problems and did very poorly on physics with calc 2 my spring semester and there is no way I'm going to pass it. I called UCSD and they said that they can't say anything about the consequences of dropping it.

Thanks, I’m going to talk to my counselor tomorrow just in case and drop it probably. I just got my second test back and it’s not looking good at all. I basically sacrificed this class to catch up on calc 3 and lin. algebra.

And yeah she was really unprofessional. She said “we gave you a contract, so read it and make a decision” and then she said that every time I asked her a question.

btw I find it funny how CS is not impacted and CE is and the only difference between them is 4 classes.

Hey I’m in a similar situation but with my chem class
I TAGd to UCSD as a bio major but do to my GPA being a 3.1 most likely if they do accept me it will be under my non impacted major psych with TAG. I have not been accepted to UCSD yet but I’m curious to know if I do get accepted as a psych major will dropping this prereq course revoke my acceptance.

This chem class is a prereq for both majors

Is Physics a requirement or a pre-requisite for your major? If it is, dropping it will not look very good. You need to read your TAG agreement and acceptance letter from USCD very carefully and see if completing this Physics course is stated as a condition for keeping your TAG and matriculating at UCSD. If it is and you drop the class your acceptance could be revoked. If you fail Physics or any other course this semester your acceptance will definitely be rescinded.

Admissions counselors at UCSD are kind of a joke(As they are everywhere). I went to one during the summer and she had no idea they were even doing online TAG applications.

I am in the same situation as well. I have to drop my Physics 2 after I got my test score today. If I drop this class, i’ll be able to study concentrate on Linear and differen. and General Chem. This will be my first W since I started college. I regretted it. Laziness really kill me. My major is ME.

I called UCSD and talked to Jessica (admission officer that somebody above recommended) and she said it will have absolutely no effect on admission as long as it doesn’t affect the 60 unit minimum, IGETC etc.

I’m worried about the “any additional documents will be attached” part because there they usually tell u to finish your current class u are taking now which are major prereqs. Well at least UCI did that for me.

I’m in the same boat. Got accepted to UCSB through TAG with the IGETC completed. I also have completed 80 units at my cc. However, my physics 2 class is practically impossible at this school, and I’m afraid I’m going to have to drop it. Does anyone think this will seriously affect my admission? If so, any suggestions?

My suggestion is to call admissions at UCSB. They will have an admissions officer for your major look over your application and tell you specifically if it’s okay or not. This is what I did. If you do drop it (and it’s okay to drop, obviously), they will make a note in your application so there won’t be any surprises for anyone.

Seriously! Phone call! It works, and will reassure you more than this thread.

@ cannotwait wait so on the TAG transfer condition they sent you after you have been accepted they told you to finish physics 2 with a certain grade?

because UCI told me to do the same thing with chem and i emailed them about it and they responded that if i don’t get a B in it my TAG will be revoked

I mean if you do call what reason are you going to give them that you have to drop because you can just say it’s to hard. you know what i mean?

Also does someone have a # where i can call UCI for the same reason

what school? did you TAG?
did they tell you to finish the class with a certain grade?
was it a major prereq? because mine is
did you do this for UCSB or was it another UC?
and finally you called and they said it was okay?
what was your reason though?
you didn’t say because it was too hard did you?

I had too many units and it was overwhelming me (26 units). I’ll take Calc II over the summer. Other prereqs (1 year bio, 1 year chem, IGETC) complete. No physics or orgo, though.
