Got into UMiami, should I wait for USC decision?

My top 2 choices were UMiami and USC. I got into UMiami today and was so excited. However, Miami transfer aren't guaranteed on campus housing, and since I'm coming from IL, I'd really like to live in a dorm so I can meet people. I'm thinking of just putting my enrollment payment and housing application in (totaling about $500) in order to reserve my housing.

I'm still waiting on USC-Marshall though. It's my reach school, and I'm worried I didn't get in but tell me what you think

GPA: 3.8
Credits earned: 30 (44 by the end of this semester)
Essay: was excellent, it was the thomas edison one.
Extra cirrucluars in college etc: Student government rep for the business department, model UN, Phi theta kappa.
ECs in HS: Latin Club, School student ambassadors, Student news paper, church volunteer, Member of a honors society for young journalists, Member of the national society of high school scholars.
Extras: I traveled to 3 different continents with people to people student ambassadors, one summer as a jr. Leader (I'm applying as an international business major)
Pre Reqs: I think I covered all of them, except maybe the foreign language requirement?

Also note: I started taking college classes prior to graduating high school & graduated early.

Also note, I graduated HS with a 2.7 because of having to go on medical leaves. All of this is throughly explained though and is the main focus of my essay.

Do you think I should just put down the enrollment for Miami? or should I wait for USC??? When do USC decisions typically come in?????

It depends if you're a freshman/sophomore. are you finishing up your freshman year?
If thats the case you might not hear back until late may/June and probably expect a spring grade request. your're looking at around june/july if you're accepted. can't tell ya which one to pick, but i'm in a similar situation and the only reason i'm waiting is because a) that reach school is the one i've been working so hard to get into and b) i dont have to wait till june/july like you hopefully.

well, I graduated early and did summer school, so I guess I'm a freshman by year but a sophomore by credit. I applied as a sophmore transfer, so I guess I have a long time to wait. I paid the enrollment fee and applied for housing at Miami, which I guess I could withdraw if I got into USC..?

yeah, I got accepted to Rutgers already, so i might pay my enrollment fee and housing fee and whatnot, and if it goes well and get into USC, i'll just go there. :) case settled. only thing we lose is like 300 dollars. :(

yea i would do that too, if usc is what your hopes are, then you should go for it, secure a spot at miami, but wait for usc :) cant lose more than a few hundred dollars and thats worth it def :D

GOOD LUCK! :)

alot of times, you can call, say you need to make a deposit sometime soon, and ask if theyll give you a decision over the phone.

^ i would be scared to do that ... lol

rollz4 I'd be too scared to do that too! applying for housing/putting down the enrollment fee at miami cost me $500...but I guess it will be worth it in the long run.

for 500 bucks, i bet i could ask my roommate to call for me haha

Are you guaranteed housing at USC as a transfer?

Actually, my mom called and asked. she told me the admissions guy said, “oh no! I don’t want her to lose her place!” then he reminded my mom that USC is very selective and has a 25% acceptance rate. So that confirmed I should put money down on another school. I just put a deposit down for University of Hawaii.

xxxwildfirexx,

Your Ecsn look similar to mine. I was a people to people student ambassador(Australia) and I am a phi theta kappa. I just thought that was cool.

I’m not going to lie, transferring into UMiami is not the most difficult. Only reason I am telling you this is because getting into USC-Marshall is very, very, very HARD. However, you have a chance. Best of luck.

USC does not guarantee housing for transfers!!!
