I'm goin to a ccc (Palomar College, in San Marcos if anyone cares). But generally, how often are laptop computers stolen? anyone out there a victim? if so, what did ya do wrong? anyone recommend them for ccc? etc. Thanx

why would it get stolen if you have it with you? All I know is that mine has saved my a** many a time. I think the pros outweigh the cons. Here are a few of the many reasons laptops are wonderful: I kind of hate when people do this, but if you have a boring class - sit in the back and play games on your laptop or chat if you have a wireless connection. Some people are more comfortable typing notes in class than writing them. If you have time between classes and need to finish an assignment or just want to play a game, take your laptop. If you're away from home and you need to finish an assignment, you have your computer right there. If you want privacy while doing your work you can set it up at the desks in the library. I also used to use mine to watch movies on reserve in the library in between classes (so I could watch it wherever I wanted instead of those media booths they have at my school)

you can get one of those laptop cable locks.

If your laptop has a mic you can record a lecture. Take notes later.

thanx you guys! that's really helpful info to know

i use mine in accounting and history. just dont leave it anywhere if you have to get up. i have a lock for my powerbook that i tie around the pillar that i plug it into in the library.

Oh Oh, i gues this is a good time to plug Dell. I just started as a dell rep and you can get a pretty awesome laptop for less than 500 or a desktop with a flat panel monitor for $349.
I <3 dell. Sorry if i'm "spamming"...just kind of excited.

wouldn't the mic need to be pretty powerful? unless you sit front row center..

I have an old (like 1999) IBM 600E (not very powerfull), using the record program (and mic mounted on the top of the computer) it's really sensitive. Sometimes you have to break out the headphones to pick up some phrases though.

And thats sitting in the last half of a large room.

laptop ===> porn in class, bring headphones though

laptop is nice. I like to study my proffesors powerpoints while in class. Of course I can print them...but it just doesnt feel the same.

if you're careful with it, it won't get stolen. I mean, its a pretty big thing to steal...I got my palm pilot stolen but i think thats just cuz i dropped it somewhere.
