Got mail from Collegeboard

Hi. I was so excited that I was going to get my ap scores but instead collegeboaard send me a letter saying that my ap spanish score will be a projected score becuase of an error with my cd; speaking part. therefore my question is what is projected score and will affect my chances of getting college credit. thanks!

Wow, this is an interesting case… I’ve never heard anything like this happening before. I would ASSUME that the projected score would be treated the same as an actual, but I have no idea.

Yeah they said that they couldn’t grade the speaking part so they will give me a score based on mc and writing but it will be consider a projected score so this sucks

A projected score is pretty self-explanatory. When some of the test can’t be graded for you, the CB extrapolates a score based on what they did grade. For example, let’s say for AP Lunch, the MC and FR are weighted equally, but the CB can’t grade your FR (the sandwich you made grew moldy during shipping). They will “project” your total raw score by doubling your raw MC sore, expecting that you would do equally well on the MC as you do on FR.

This shouldn’t hurt your chances of credit too badly.

hopefully you suck at speaking :/

the non-native students from my class would be so happy with this, speaking was the hardest part for them.

They’ll probably only grade your MC portion and whatever percentage it comes out to (i.e. 65% correct or more = 5, 54%+ = 4, etc.) will ultimately determine your score. Though it’s interesting they sent you that, you should totally call them up and cry about how well you did on the speaking part and how this is an injustice to you. Free 5 all the way.

thanks! i’m going to wait until my score comes in the mail, and depending on the score, i will call.

“(i.e. 65% correct or more = 5, 54%+ = 4, etc.)”
The curve is much harsher than that. It’s more like 75%= 5, 66%= 4, etc. etc. The speaking section is much easier than the MC(I’m a nonative too) since the listening doesn’t kill you on that section. I’d get it checked out since it actually tends to raise scores.
