Which ones are matches, slight reaches, reaches, and safeties? Thanks

bump..........

bump fhidfhidfd

UCI/UCD/UCSB: reach
UCR: match
Cal Poly Pomona: safety

Your GPA is what's holding you back. Your ECs are good for where you're aiming.

Looks pretty good. Write a good essay and get some good recommendations and you everything looks good.

Thanks for the replies. Nice to see at least 2 out of the 150 people who looked at this thread said something.

Do you think I'm at least a slight reach for UCI? I know my GPA is crap, because of that damn 2nd semester of sophomore year. A fricken elective killed my GPA.

Well, to be honest, your UC GPA is about .4 below average for UCI (which is 3.92, I think). And your SAT is about 50 points below average, too. Given your ECs, your chances at the mid-tier UCs might be slight reaches. Do you have any other thing that might be going for you -- adversity (low income, etc.) or URM status or traumatic experiences that affected your performance? Anything that could explain your GPA?

However, if it's an elective that's bringing your GPA, you might note that and possibly explain it in the additional comments. What would your GPA be looking only at the five core courses (English, math, history, science, language)?

I may be wrong but isn't that 3.92 the GPA of everyone who got admitted? So like people who used UCI as a safety (all those 4.3's+) inflate it somewhat. And same with the SAT.

lol no adversity for me, just a lame and pathetic kid living in California.

Back in sophomore year, I was taking Technical theater. I got an A first semester. Why? Because the teacher was happy. That class lived off of fundraisers and donations. Everyone was donating and being active in the class. However, if there's no money, the teacher is mad and miserable because we can't do anything in the class or go on field trips. Second semester, kids stopped doing fundraisers and started not caring. So basically he gave everyone a written final at out of no where at the end of the year that nobody was prepared for and he gave us huge projects that he just threw away when we turned in.

He gave me a C 2nd semester which ruined my GPA. If I had gotten an A, which should have been a given, my GPA would probably be a full .1 higher.

That's my excuse but colleges will look at me as a whiner if I tell them that.

My GPA was mediocre for those 2 years of high school but I wouldn't say it's bad. Excluding second semester of sophomore year, I had a 3.8, 3.7, and 3.5. It's just that one semester...

That may be true, but see this (what my logic is based on):

<a href="http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/selecting/camp_profiles/chart_uci.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/selecting/camp_profiles/chart_uci.pdf</a></p>

I'd recommend explaining, if you think it's worth explaining and you can explain in an un-whiny way, that in the additional comments.

Looking at the SAT stats more closely, it seems that UCI would be something around a slight reach (about 50%).
