Hello, when I recently received my score report in the mail, one score surprised me. I don't mean to sound self-entitled and that I "deserved" a better score, just that, it legitimately seems wrong. Every other AP exam score I've received was exactly what I expected it be, except for this one. Is it unheard of for CB to print the wrong score on a score report? Is it worth contacting them? I'm not entirely sure what my next step here should be, or even if this is worth pursuing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!

If you want specifics, it was my APUSH score. I felt like I got a very solid 4, but the report shows a 2.

College Board doesn’t really slip up on these kinds of things, I doubt they would make a mistake like this.

You could contact them and request them to re-score it. If you felt like you got a 4 and you got a 2 then it most likely it wasn’t a mistake. If you feel like you’ve been cheated out of, go ahead and request them for a re-score.

Does that cost a lot of money? It seems kinda wrong to potentially pay for their mistake, but it’d be better than retaking the whole exam next year.

Also, which number should I use to contact them? The “General AP Contact” number or the “AP Services” number?

I’m pretty sure that if there is an error found and your score is corrected upward (scores cannot go down if rescored), the rescoring is free, as it should be.

I called today, and it sounds like there was no mistake; the lady I talked to said she saw that both the MC and essays were there. She mentioned rescoring, and I said I would need to think about it. I think I heard in the rescoring thread that it’s just the MC portion, right? I don’t really see where the margin of error is in that. What could have gone wrong that causes people to get different scores upon rescoring? Is it worth it? I still feel pretty uncertain about my score, but $25 is a lot to me, and I don’t want to waste it.

You probably just bombed the essays or something, dude - it’s alright, it happens.

The difference between a high 2 and a low 4 really isn’t all that big, so I’d say it’s most likely you just overestimated yourself. Maybe you ended up writing about the wrong topic and scored no points. It’s alright. It’s just one exam. It won’t hurt you on college applications because you don’t even have to report your AP scores. :)
