Got rejected

Just got rejected by Stony :/ I was hoping I would at least have it as one of my choices but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Sad day for me :(

It’s Ok, my brother goes there and he hates it. How did you find out? What are your STATS?

I find out by email today. These are my Stats:
SAT-Math: 570, CR: 440, W: 510
GPA: 96.35 (weighted); 94.04 (unweighted)
Rank: 17/316
I’m taking AP Stats this year. I’ve taken honor classes for math and science since 9th grade. I applied as undecided. My SAT scores are really low so that could’ve been a factor.

are you from NY and when did you apply?

Yeah I’m from New York and applied early December for RD.

Its okay. You can transfer in later.

Regarding Pokemon’s comments. I think everyone has different opinions of SB. I had a great time here, and I don’t regret coming here at all. Actually, If had the whole college process again, I would choose SBU.

Okay, thanks for your opinion. I’m not sure what I’ll do after my first year but I might think about doing that.

well i m feel like i m regret coming here… it’s the forth week now, i haven’t got any friends yet…sad

I’m sure in time you will make friends, you just gotta speak up and introduce yourself to people. There’s no harm in doing that. :)

Don’t feel bad about it. Think of it this way: it narrows down your college choice, and it’ll be easier to decide where to go now. Plus, if it wasn’t a top choice, no harm done.

Hell, at least you got a response. I applied in mid October and I haven’t gotten anything at all.

Yeah, I guess your right. I shouldn’t worry too much about it. Is Stony Brook your top choice or one of your top choices?

Definitely my top choice. I wanna do a STEM major (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math major), and SBU has awesome programs for that. Plus, I love the campus and it’s not too far from my home since it’s only in LI, but I can still dorm there to get a full experience.

And yet, it seems like I’ve been waiting an eternity. UAlbany already accepted me, and it’s also a pretty good school. CCNY’s Engineering School is gonna reply in 2-3 weeks. SBU is making it hard for me to decide to go there.

I got accepted to Albany too and I plan to visit there in April. Binghamton hasn’t replied as of yet. I also got accepted to Oneonta and New Paltz. I don’t know what I want to major in so I’m just going to go as undecided.

Sometimes these schools take a really long time to reply so I’m not surprised some people didn’t get anything yet. A couple of my friends are still waiting for SBU to reply. I hope you get accepted to Stony though. Do you mind if I ask what your STATS are?

GPA: 91.7/100.0 (About a 3.6) Rank: 16/198 SAT: 620 R/ 550 M/ 690 W Intended Major/AOI: Physics PossibleMinors: Electrical Engineering/Finance/Computer Science (I’d only pick one)

I have a lot of extra curriculars/awards/that sort of stuff.Too much to list, so I’ll just list the most important few:

Debate (Student Congress) (Captain all 4 years) Concert Senior Band (Trumpet/French Horn) (Section Leader) Advanced Jazz Band (Trumpet) Student Government- House System (Think: Harry Potter. Yes, I am the leader of a “House”, the Bonilla house) Varsity Handball Team- Doubles Player
National Honor Society (No office held)

I take the most rigorous course at my school. AP Physics, AP USHistory, AP English, Calculus, and a few electives.

Wow! I would be shocked if they didn’t accept you lol. The thing is I didn’t take any AP courses during 9th-11th grade which was something I should’ve done. I’m taking my first AP this year. It would’ve been a good experience to see how tough college tests would be because I know there is a BIG difference between high school and college work. AP English would’ve definitely helped me with my reading SAT score (I really hate English, it’s my worst subject).

I’ve take AP (Calc AB, Calc BC, Physics B, Physics C E & M, Physics C Kinematics, Chem, USH, Language)
Taking AP Micro and AP Lit this year, in addition to CL Sociology and Multi-variable Calc
I’ve also taken electrical/engineering classes all 4 years
all other classes were honors

I applied to Brandeis, Cornell, Fordham, NJIT, Stony Brook, Syracuse and RPI

I’ve only received an acceptance letter from NJIT. I’m pretty sure I’ll be accepted to SBU, but I’m really impatient. What do you guys think?

I think you’ll get in! You have extracurricular activities, a high SAT score and GPA, and you’ve taken a lot of AP courses. Colleges like to see that. You have a very good chance in getting in.

Do you think i have a chance of getting accepted into the honors program?

My intended major is physics.

It depends if there is a honors program for physics. You can look it up on their website. They should show the requirements in order to be in the honors program.

konpab - Have you not heard yet? You might want to contact us directly, find out where you are in the application process on our end.

SBUTransfer - If you’re having trouble connecting, there are lots of places to start. The Student Life office (2nd floor SAC) would be the first place; talk to our student activities folks up there.
