Anyone else get screwed with their summer job? I was offered 8 weeks of work with extra money to work weekends but ended up only getting 5 weeks at a lower salary. Some people promised 6 weeks got even less-like 3 weeks. This was after signing a contract in April and doing self study for one week and 2 days of orientation. Is there a website or other place to list crappy national employers to warn other college students? Since they only hire college students I think they feel like they don't have to honor their contracts.

There is nothing contractual about a job's length. There are very few exceptions to a job offer "at will" - an internship isn't one of them.

I remember I was offered a job at a local company doing some engineering work that I was really excited about back when I was in high school. The job had been set up about four or five months prior to the summer, and then, around the last week of May, they called me to say I couldn't work in the labs because I wasn't over 21. I was pretty much dumbfounded. It's not like any high schooler is going to be bordering 21, so this ought to be something they should have known! It pretty much left me without a solid job for the summer and kinda killed my graduation project (since I was going to base the project off of my work at that company).

2 weeks ago, I had my year-long internship cancelled when they eliminated the position. So I've been applying and interviewing, but my class schedule is now getting in the way.

Do these things happen at fortune 500 companies?

Every company is feeling the pinch. Fortune 500 companies are not immune from economic slumps, bad investments, bankruptcies and restructuring.
