i got admitted to nyu and i want to transfer (initially i wanted to do business thus i chose nyu, but now im having second thoughts and im thinking of transferring) and i have a few questions.

when u apply as a transfer, do you still submit all your high school records etc… even though ive sent it to that school already and got rejected before?

do i have to take the new SATs? (i took the old one for my originial application)

when should i start preparing for a transfer? (i mean, i havent even started at nyu heh)

Apply for your transfer whenever you are ready. Most colleges and universities require 4 semesters in residency, meaning your last chance is before starting Junior year. Paper work is not that much, but be ready to re-submit financial aid (if necessary), work on some new essays, and get really strong faculty/professor recommendations.

It depends on your school. If you apply for a transfer before Junior Year, many colleges either don't want your SAT score or put little importance on them. But taking new SAT I and challenging yourself may say something about your application.

When you apply for a transfer, they should ask for a high school transcript and a college transcript. More so, college if you apply freshman year.

I can understand why you want to transfer out of NYU, if it's too expensive or you don't like Greenwich Village or NYC. Did you get entrance to Stern?

Also, visit the college you want to transfer into. That's about all I can think of now. Good luck ~!james

a lot of schools require you to have completed 30 credits before you can transfer. meaning the earliest you can normally transfer is after your freshman year, although some schools will allow you to transfer after your first semester of freshman year. it totally depends on where you are applying.

i submitted my high school records (they were required). i had to email my high school guidance counselor, and while i was home for winter break i went in and signed some release that allowed them to send my gpa and stuff.

i didn't retake SATs, but then, the school i was applying to doesn't really look at SATs as much as most schools do.

i think, if i remember correctly, my transfer application deadline was march 15th or so. but i tried to get the application complete and sent in earlier to better my chances (no idea if that actually works, but it sounded good in my head) and also because i'd heard that if you need financial aid you have a better chance of getting more as a transfer if you send in your application early as some schools give it on a first-come-first-serve basis to transfers.

and, I was also applying to a school i had been wait-listed at before (and then they didn't take anyone off the waitlist...), and I actually think that reapplying helps your chances because they know you are really serious about wanting to go there.
