Basically its a program (General Studies Program) where they don't immediately let you into your intended studies, but you get accepted to complete all your general requirements during the first two years (or one if you applied to Tisch). Then after the two years is up, if you have maintained a cumulative 3.0 gpa, you are guaranteed admittance into the major you indicated when you applied.

Hope that helps =)

(haha I know a response with a link was already posted but I'm at school and I'm crazy bored)

everyone gets parent news. i got it and i was accepted ED.

Is there anyone who got it and didn't get in?

me

It's for everyone on their mailing list..

yay mailing lists! yeah i still get stuff from other colleges i never even applied to. (will this stop once we leave for college? i dont want my parents to still be filtering through all that kind of mail once im gone)

parents news is just a bimonthly newsletter that is sent out to educate people about nyu. its not student specific and therefore, does not imply that you will be gsp bound.

and for those who dont know what gsp is, its basically a program that nyu puts people that didnt get into cas and (stern??) but they "feel will do well and contribute to nyu". basically, you take 2 years of general courses and then in your third year move into your major concentration.

it seems like most of the people referred to gsp applied to cas, and some to stern, but i contacted nyu (on their admissions bulletin board) and they told me that actually any applicant to any of the colleges can be referred to gsp. (oh, but that those who applied to tisch get out of gsp after one year since tisch is so intense or something to that effect)

just an fyi, because i was really confused about that for awhile too, seeing as how the nyu website really doesnt mention it, but pretty much all you hear about are the cas and stern kids who go to gsp

scrapnel, the vast majority of kids in gsp are CAS applicants. This year I think there are only 8 kids currently who applied to Stern. That's a negligible number. No Tisch drama kids and even less than the number from Stern ever go to gsp from other Tisch departments.

yeah, im aware most are cas applicants, thats obvious if you just look around at lj communities or myspace groups. all im doing is repeating what i was told by the admissions office. being referred to gsp after applying somewhere besides cas, though unlikely, is technically possible.
