So when I looked at the app status today it said I got waitlisted, but does that mean I got waitlisted from all colleges?
My first choice is Carlson and CLA for second choice, but either one is actually fine with me.
I really want to go to this school, so I've been wondering if there is still anything I can do.

The admissions folks are really quite open to questions. They prob don’t know whether or not you will get in, but they could tell you how many kids last year came off the waitlist or if you come off the list which college you might get into. Kids are still waiting to hear from other universities and so more spots will open up.

Ask admissions if being on the waitlist allows you to turn in the housing deposit. It is non refundable, but only $25. If you can afford the gamble, it would be worth getting your name on the list for your top dorm choice.

Good luck!

I’ve been waitisted, too. I believe they sent out acceptances first, then waitlists receive their decisions this week and the following are rejection letters.
I’m pretty bummed about being waitlisted, but at least we weren’t flat out denied. We still have a chance.

Keep them informed, especially with your grades and such. Inform them with awards you received that you didn’t get to put in your application because you submitted it before.
When my friend got waitlisted to UMN last year, he kept them informed about his achievements. He e-mailed them and he also did very well his first semester of senior year, which they were able to see the transcript of.

Also, I would pay the $25 housing deposit, just in case. You never really know.

Good luck!

I was also wait listed and said that I would recieve a decision by April 15th, does it normally come sooner than that?

Did your guys’ statuses ever switch to “carefully considered”, or did it go straight to saying you were waitlisted?

Please tell me you’re joking @timebomb, my status changed to “carefully considered” on tuesday I believe…UMinn is like my #1 school ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!
My GPA is a little bit under but my SAT score was way above the average and I had really good ECs and I got that golden gopher application!!

actually I’ll be honest it sucks. my gpa is a 3.3 uw 3.7 weighted but that’s cuz I took a ton of AP classes and in my school, everyone gets Bs and Cs if you’re smart in AP classes, in order to prepare you for 5s on the AP exam. So I have 24 college credits as of right now, and could go up to 50 by the end of this year…ughhhhhhhh i’m sad

@trumpetguy42. I don’t think you should be worried. My stats are decent for UMinn and my appstatus says the same. I got the golden gopher app too. I don’t want to attend, but my GPA UW is a 3.55 and the SAT is a 2330 so i don’t THINK i will be rejected.

hahaha thanks a lot @vikingprime, yeah I’m sure you will get in!! I’ve heard its also for those that are borderline and who applied to engineering or business and their stats aren’t good enough for that. I’m hoping that’s it because I applied to Carlson. I knew I wouldn’t get into Carlson, but I was hoping i could do Econ in CLA and then transfer to Carlson finance!

I was wait listed last week and was kind of disappointed. However, today my application status on the tracker reverted back to “Your application is being very carefully considered.” This mean anything, or does it just change back after a few days?

Just got my letter, I’ve been waitlisted. Anybody know how many people minnesota waitlist, and what percent of people usually get accepted. I’ve tried searching online, can’t seem to be finding it!

^^
trumpetguy42: The waitlist statistics are usually listed in a college’s Common Data Set, in Question C2. However, UM chooses not to include the detailed stats, and has not for many years. Unless somebody knows of another source, you’ll have to call the Admissions Department to get the answer.

Univ. Minnesota Common Data Set: [OIR : Twin Cities Campus Standard Survey Response (Common Data Set)](http://www.oir.umn.edu/student/student/common_data_set)

@HitchFan:You said that your application was considered again after got waitlisted?
And have you got any further information yet?
wish you good luck!

What happened is that I got waitlisted and when I logged into the application tracker it had the whole paragraph about how there are too many applicants and I had to be waitlisted etc…

It stayed like that for about a week, and then reverted back to “You’re application is being very carefully considered,” which is what it was the week before I was waitlisted. It’s probably just automatically set to go to that a little while after being waitlisted. I’d like it if someone could verify that for me though.

Good luck to you as well.

i got waitlisted too, sigh I had my hopes up to attend Minnesota! i believe you can fill out a wait-list appeal, but there’s like 4 paragraphs that you need to write. also, even though they said they would let us know by april 15, some people said they might defer you to june 15… until spots open up.

Also wait listed really sucks because Minnesota is my dream school hopefully we find out soon!

I was waitlisted a few years ago, and I remember being told I’d hear by April 15th. In reality, I never heard anything or got any updates whatsoever so I had to go to school elsewhere and wait until the next year to transfer into the U. This happened to a lot of other people too. I’d give them a call in the second week of April just to ensure they’re still planning on updating you. Hopefully they’ve improved the system by now.

For those who are waitlisted,
Be patient, you maybe surprised.

Exactly one week ago, I got a letter for UM that I had been waitlisted. I was mad, but since i wasn’t rejected, I kept my head up. Today, I received the big Maroon and Gold acceptance packet albeit not to the college of my choice. Since UM wasn’t high on my list, i probably won’t be attending. All in all, be patient waitlisted people. What you are seeking may come at a time you least expect.

Okay so my situation is pretty weird. The website said i was accepted around February 26th and I received a call saying I was accepted. However, I just received a letter w/ February 19th datestamp saying I was waitlisted. I’m pretty confused lol. The website never said I had been waitlisted…so was I waitlisted at some point and accepted?

^Give admissions a call. Most likely you were waitlisted on February 19th, and they accepted you on the 26th.

If so, welcome to the U of M!
