gotta love them UC's. chance this desperate wierdo?

I'm a rising senior, and my current list of colleges include UC Berkeley, Harvey Mudd, UCLA, UCSD, Caltech, and Brown. My top choices are the three UC's, though.

650 SAT math level 1 (definitely not sending that though lol)
730 Chemistry
800 Math level 2
690 Bio M (not sending that either)
720 US History

GPA (Top 4% in class of 450):
unweighted(9-11): 3.75
Unweighted(10-11): 3.63
UC weighted(10-11): 3.96
weighted uncapped(10-11): 4.3

AP EXAMS:
AP Euro (2)
AP Chem (3)
AP Physics B (2)
AP Biology (5)
AP US History (5)
AP Calculus BC (5) with a 5 on the subscore

Senior year, i'll be president of Spanish club and Health and Medicine club, and probably something in the Crafts and baking club, but i'm not sure exactly what.
Represented IAIDQ at the DGIQ conference this summer.
Represented IBM at the Watson booth at TiECON this summer as well.
Taking on leading a community group via a program called YES (Youth Empowerment Seminar)

In addition, I did Economics for Leaders at UC Berkeley. I'm tutoring kids as a summer job as well.

VOLUNTEERING: (all ongoing)

IBM EXITE camp counselor (they only let you do a max of 1 year)
Kidpower volunteer at library (6 years)
Math tutor to students in school (2 years)

SENIOR SCHEDULE:
AP Stats, AP Government, AP Economics, AP English Lit, 2-D animation(that would be my art), Digital Engineering, Anatomy/Physiology

Does it help to say that I'm the first student at my school to take AP Chem as a sophomore without Honors Chem and to take AP Physics as a junior without Honors Physics? Also, Digital Engineering is the third year engineering course on the "Pathway to Engineering," and I'm technically skipping classes there too.

Thanks so much in advance! I know this is a long post.

You look like a really good candidate for the UC’s

Not only are your academics stellar, but your EC’s are fantastic!

Your SAT is great and your ECs are good. Although your GPA is good, the 10th-11th GPA is under 4.0. The acceptance rate for students with UC GPA’s between 3.7 and 3.99 was only 4.52% at UCLA and similar at Berkeley.

All three schools seem like matches, with UCLA and Cal being slightly closer to the reach end.

Chance me back
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1379901-chance-california-schools-thanks.html</a></p>

Your stats and ECs are amazing! I would honestly be surprised if you didn’t at least get into UCLA, UCSD, and UCB. You’re worrying me since I’m looking at similar schools, haha! I would say that Brown, Harvey Mudd, and Caltech are reaches, but you definitely have a chance. Good luck with the application! Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1367096-chance-me-ucla.html</a></p>

thank you so much, guys! any other opinions?

GPA is a bit low for UC’s like SD, LA, and Berkeley (maybe even Davis now). But nothing you can do about it. Other than that, you look good. Work on those essays!

Hey coco, thanks for your advice on my post. You’ve got great sat scores and sick ec’s, though your GPA is kinda low for the colleges you mentioned. Caltech would be a reach for anyone but you have a great chance at the UC’s you mentioned. Don’t worry so much, you are in no way a “desperate wierdo”.

P.S How did u get 650 on the math lvI and 800 on math lv II?

Thanks once again! haha, i’m just freaked because of the unexpected GPA drop my second semester junior year D: we’ll see!
The Math 1 was after a year of the WORST Algebra 2 teacher ever, and the Math 2 was after getting a 5 on Calc BC. I actually got a 760 the first time I took the Math level 2 the previous year :P

bump bump; bumpity bump

Honestly, it’s getting sooo competitive nowadays that your stats may not be good enough to get you to any of the colleges that you mentioned. All you can do is apply and hope for the best

wait what? am I really that badly off?

These are highly competitive schools and well-rounded applicants just don’t cut it sometimes. I’ll put money u make it into SD or Davis, but the others are crap shots.

It’s not that unique that you took AP chem sophmore year and ap physics b without the honors classes first. Tons of kids at my school do that (including myself and I got a five on AP chem). I am just hoping to make my state school.

How about if I said that in the school I come from, noone has ever skipped ANYTHING before? I know for a fact that this counts for SOMETHING as universities get your high school’s report. (coming from a UCSD adcom)
