Gov 310L

Is GOV 310L a difficult class to take at UT?

:[[

I have to take it because I didn't take AP GAP in high school. I'm nervous about it because my schedule for this year is already pretty full. I've heard it was a difficult class... should i wait and take it through ACC or my local CC or something? Then again, I'm an International Relations major, maybe it's a subject I really should know inside and out...

help? :S

You could just take it at a community college in the summer. You’ll probably learn the same amount of material.

It’s not really a pre-req for anything except GOV 312L, so you could wait a year or two before you take it.

Why Two Kay, would you happen to have any professor suggestions for GOV 312L?

It’s a toss up. All of the teachers teach a different version of the class, with their own material.

I took Greene, and the class ended up being all about Mexico and US/Mexican relations. I had an A on the first two exams and the essay, but then I somehow bombed the final. It was insanely hard as compared to the other two tests, mainly because we had a bunch of movie days and guest lecturers for the last segment of the class, but the exam covered what he would have said that day in a normal lecture. So it was just too out there. Plus there was no curve.

So I guess I am saying avoid Greene, even though he was engaging and funny and the material was interesting. He had no grade distribution on MyEdu, I think he does now though, and it’s not as good as the other teachers.

OK, so I’m confused!

Right now i’m trying to sign up to take government at my CC during the second summer session. I looked at the in-state transfer equivalency thing just to make sure that it would transfer correctly… but my CC’s federal government class transfers into UT not as GOV 310L but as “GOV 3 US.” i want to get this out of the way so i can go ahead with GOV 312L but i don’t want to accidentally take the wrong course!!

i need help ASAP because i only have a couple of days left to register!

AmericanInParis - I took government courses at A&M and they transferred as GOV 3 TX and GOV 3 US. Both are fine and fulfill the required 6 hour courses in gov. [Common Transfer Credit Issues - Government Courses](http://www.utexas.edu/student/admissions/ate/problems/government.html)

I didn’t think 310L was difficult at all. I took it with Jessee.

oh ok. I have Hurst as a professor for GOV 312L. But there are no reviews for him on ratemyprof.com :P

Try myedu.com You have to pay for it, but it’s worth it. I only signed up for the $5 subscription.

Most of the 310 classes are extremely easy and quite boring. I took it with Jessee. The tests were all multiple choice and based off the book with a few minor questions that involved lecture discussions. No essays. A few of the sections have professors that require students to write essays, so I’d imagine those are a bit harder. Check the syllabus of each class on blackboard to see what is required of you.

A lot of people take it online or at CC where it’s cheaper and probably easier.

AntiRacist, I took 310 with Jessee and we had essays. The format was 20 MC, a handful of short answer, and two 1-2 paragraph essays.

^

Must have changed since I took it four semesters ago. Thanks for the correction.

Oh gotcha. I took him this past Spring. His exams are still really easy though, but some people thought they were difficult. It’s one of those classes where if you read the chapter and take detailed notes in class and study those like crazy, you’ll do great. I think my lowest exam grade was a 94 and he didn’t implement +/-.

thanks all  i’ve decided to just take both TX and Federal government from my CC so that i don’t have any problems linking the two courses together at UT. plus, it’ll be good to have it over with!

What about with David Edwards? and what role does reading the ny times play in test taking?
