Govenmental Concerns

Okay...here is a serious question for you guys...I have a paper to write for my Political Science class where we have to poll college students about there number 1 concern dealing with current american government....so my question to you guys is just that... "what is your number 1 concern with this current government?"

geez....no one has anything to say....and I thought that you were all very opinionated....

i think people are concerned that this may turn into a way-too-opionated political argument thread...again. at least thats how i feel.

okay...sorry for asking...I don't want it to get that political....just don't respond....

Bush being ignorant to the educational system in America, both in believing that schools dont need money to teach better, that their wanting money will make them magically do better, and that everyone should be able to pass standardize tests, when not everyone is capable of passing them.

I'll say government growth/spending/the deficit. I like President Bush, but he's gotta veto one of these spending bills.

Our shattered international relations...which inevitably will have severe consequences down the road

Terrorists hitting the United States again. The terrorist mind set will not give up on killing Americans.

I'm annoyed that abortion has become the center of all American politics.

it might be...but it shouldnt be...

the only people getting riled up about abortion are right wing bomb throwers like Robertson

If you were asking the general public, I'd be shocked if Social Security wasn't in the pluraity. Corruptions ranking pretty high, defecit, terrorism, economy, can't think of any other big ones off the top of my head right now.

Were you serious in saying that? Did you watch any of the Alito hearings last week?

buckeye, except for the students here planning to major in politics, IR, etc. even for the majority of CC, I doubt they would be able to distinguish Alito from a random Republician.

There are few (myself included) who actually follow this. Alito hearings were pretty boring though. You sort of sense he knew he was going to be nominated no matter what so he decided to just float through the whole thing. DIdn't except help that his wife decides to burst in tears which effectively portrayed the Democrats as a bunch of pric-ks.

Rest of senators are just trying to get their vocal opinions in now. No one's fooled though as party members are voting strictly by party assocation.

they were flaming becuase they knew alito is a coniving bastard

"strict intrepretation of the constitution" my ass
that philosophy applies to cases he favors, not ones he wants to overturn

hypocrite.

Back to the original question. I think a major problem is the US government refusing the adapt to the world, especially with relation to trade. The ballooing twin deficit is a major problem. Oh and this whole protectionist spiel. It just needs to stop.

Firewalker,

I'm actually very conservative, and personally I don't agree with abortion. However it's been 30 years now since Roe v. Wade, and while I don't agree with it, I think there are far more important issues in American politics. While abortion is important, it should not be the basis of the American political system.

I see what allena is saying. yeah, it's annoying that people focus so much on stuff like abortion and gay marriage (the 'moral' issues) rather than more important topics like, oh I don't know, the war and all the money being poured into it.

Well the Republicans have this time seemed to concentrate on the social issues rather than more important issues. Sad but true.

"Well the Republicans have this time seemed to concentrate on the social issues rather than more important issues. Sad but true."

add a healthy portion of lies to that equation

lacks a plan to deal with peak oil
