How strong are Bowdoin’s government and econ programs? Do they have a good reputation? Also, I’ve heard that Bowdoin’s student body is very rich/preppy and fairly homogeneous. Can a middle-class minority student fit in?

The government department was rated #1 for Liberal Arts colleges by the London School of economics. They are very strong - one of, if not the best programs that we have.

There are rich/preppy people here, but most of them are rich/preppy/openminded/accepting. And there are a ton of other people here as well. I think you'd have no problems fitting in.

Oliver-Do you know if you can find that ranking online?

nm-I found it: http://personal.lse.ac.uk/HIX/Working%20Papers/Hix-Rankings-30Jan04.pdf

Though it seems Lafayette and Reed are ranked above Bowdoin.

I was pointing to this article:

sorry if I wasn't completely correct.

Thats alright. I think we were citing different years (and the rankings are heavily weighted toward schools with larger departments, so a school with 1800 students making the list in the first place is a big feat).
