Government and Politics

Hi all!

I'm new to the board and find it to be a great source of information. Currently a junior, I plan to study Political Science/Goverment when I enter college. I was wondering if anyone could speak on schools with good undergrad PoliSci programs. Schools that I'm considering are Georgetown; Notre Dame; UVA; etc... Lastly, I've heard talk that a lot of people apply as an intended PoliSci major. Does this hurt my chances - I genuinley want to study this field, but am I hurting myself by writing down this major?

Sorry for the longwindedness. Thank you for your insight and guidance for appropriate schools!

bump bump bumpity bump

Dartmouth has a great Government major and is especially strong in International Relations.

Georgetown's program is good, and schools in DC are generally good for studying politics.

Athena,

Thanks for the reply, it's much appreciated. I did not realize the strenght of Darmouth's Government program; thanks for pointing it out. Anyone else care to weigh in (please)?

No problem. I am a double major history and government so if you have any questions feel free! :)

Oh and by the way, I don't think marking it down hurts your chances at all. If anything, applying as a govt. major to a school with a strong program will show you are a good fit. To put it in perspective, I think it has significantly less impact than which state you live in. (Which has very little impact in the big picture._

Thanks Athena,

I can't thank you enough for your help. What made you choose Dartmouth? Where you considering other schools for your intended majors - if so which ones?

I would imagine that Chicago has a great program.

Northwestern!!!

Interesting. What would cause you to mention those two Illinois universities?
