<p>Nope. I don't think it really affects admissions. If it did though, I would say choose American studies.</p>
<p>(it seems) Half of this school majors in Government, so make whatever you wnat out of that, but id go for Am. Studies.</p>
<p>haha yes that makes sense. But out of curiosity why would you go for american studies? Do you prefer the profs or just because there are fewer people majoring in it?</p>
<p>Hey I'm an undeclared freshman at Georgetown right now and I'm deciding between the same two majors. I had actually designated English as my major on my applicaiton, but I think that specifying American Studies on your app would be a better move just because the school is trying to get students to major in American Studies; as it is a fairly new program and there aren't many students majoring in it. Plus, you don't have to offically declare your major until later, if you do change your mind.</p>
<p>Btw, what do you plan on doing after college? I'm only asking because when I tell people that I'm gonna major in American Studies they give me weird looks and ask me what I'm gonna do with a degree in A.S. I just look at them and assert that I'm gonna go to law school, which I see as pretty logical :-) -Just thought you might want to know! Best of Luck!</p>
<p>hahaha thats weird - I'm thinking law school as well at the moment. So at point does one have to declare their major? Even if I was admitted as American Studies how easy or difficult would it be to change over to government if I thought it was a better fit?</p>

<p>What year are you? I only ask because you're supposed to declare after your sophomore year and if you want to major in American Studies you have to take four history courses that you should start taking in the fall of your sophomore year. And it's definitely easy to switch if you specify one major on your app. simply because it's not a official declaration...you make that one in sophomore year! Just like I said, I specified English on my app and now I;m deciding between two other majors.</p>
<p>ah okay thanks for that info jayson. I would be transferring to begin in my sophomore year so I'm still within that time frame. Do you like the american studies program? I know you said you are still deciding what to major in but you seem to have some knowledge on it!</p>
