Government Programs at AU

Hello, I am a prospective freshman who is interested in Government (surprise surprise). I am intrigued by the PPL Scholars program but have doubts about an interdisciplinary track. Whatever I do, I know that I want to apply later for the combined BA/MA Program.

My questions are: Is the Three-Year PPL Scholars Program seen as more advanced or less advanced than a regular Four-Year BA degree within SPS? Other things equal, which would be a better applicant for the Combined BA/MA Degree?

Also if anybody has any information about how each degree fares in the public policy career fireld that would be extremely helpful.

I have a friend in PPL who goes on and on about the program. Obviously, because it is a three-year program you have a rigorous course load and is seen as more advanced.

And from one AU student to another, if you meet the BA/MA requirements, you’ll likely get in. Plus, everyone wants to do the BA/MA program when they get here but say differently when they’ve actually been here… You might want to get out of AU after being here for awhile (not to say it’s a bad school, just saying people want change).

But yeah – definitely apply for the PPL program because it’s an advanced track. I wouldn’t worry that it’s interdisciplinary… if anything you can sell it and tell a future employer it was a 3-year program related to public policy (which it is) dealing with govt, etc etc.
