I want to use the scholarship this year, but I don't know if I should report it to the UCLA fin aid office. I'm barely going to accept my awards on efan, and it asks to report any outside awards or "Failure to report them will result in future revisions and possible billing funds already received." But I remember reading on here that we shouldn't report them because UCLA will decrease our fin aid. Should I report the award?

I would. I had scholarships too and was afraid of the consequences of not reporting them. Yes, the reduct your financial aid, it first goes loans to work study to grants-- no matter if you accept them or not. So, it all depends on how much your scholarship covers. But, I would report it just to be on the safe side because if they ever find out. tsk tsk tsk.

...but if it's not being used this year, is it okay to not report it?

I mean, there's no way to not report it if you're using the scholarship because doesn't the check have to be sent to UC Regents?

how do i get my money? do i have to create an account at scholarrshare.com?

I'm curious about this too. I got the scholarship as well but don't plan on using it this year.

Report the award only if you are planning to use it THIS school year. They will then replace your loans or workstudy or whatever financial aid you have. However, if you are not using it this year, you do not need to report it, as you don't want them to take into consideration the scholarship money for this year's financial aid package.

To withdraw your scholarship, go to:
http://www.scholarshare.com/acc_srvc.html

Under the "withdraw" column, you'll see a PDF form for the Governor's Scholarship. Fill that out... I believe it asks for the UCLA Remittance Center's address (can be found on URSA on your BAR Account) so that they can send a check over there... and then UCLA will send you an updated eFAN.

[that's a lot of acronyms, hope all you new bruins got that]
