Governor's School?

@agupte‌ Have you heard back from sciences? I got wait listed and everyone else from my school got rejected. Trying to figure out who got in from our area

@‌Mjag1898 Are you sure you got the Sciences letter? I got the Engineering and Technology letter a week ago and I was wait listed, and all others in my school rejected.

They take at least one per county, (I assume you live in Northampton), so that is surprising. So some one in Northampton must have been accepted.

I did not get any letter, but odds are I will be rejected. I do not know what type of person they accept. 8-|

Though to be fair I spent a lot of more time on the Sciences essays than the Engineering essays.

@agupte‌ I was under the impression that it was at least one per colonial iu, not per County, since PA has over 60 counties but 29 colonial ius. If it is 1-2 per colonial iu, it’s at max 2 students from 13 school districts which makes it understandable I was wait listed.

For all you guys wondering how to get in, you can check out my resume chance thread. I was accepted there.

I applied to Governor’s School in my state, one of the best HS in my county.

They took a kid from the most urban HS in the county, the lowest ranked school in the county.

YMMV.

@agupte‌ and others wait listed for the PGSE&T, they extended the date to have initial forms returned for those accepted for “administrative purposes” so maybe some people were slowing getting those papers in. That’s a good sign if you were waitlisted.

@mattman37 That is good news, but it is still unfortunate that they did not extend the deadline and start accepting watilist applicants.

That being said, the fact that the papers are coming in slower than expected is still a good sign. We will have to see what happens…

Hi, I got accepted to both PGSE&T and PGSS (from Lehigh Valley area… @mjag1898 do I know you?). The competition was very intense in my region I think because 7 people from my school applied, but I’m pretty sure my essays pulled me through since my SAT score sucked. Out of the 7 from my school, two (one boy and one girl) were accepted and the rest were rejected.

For PGSE&T, we are instructed to send the reject form by the end of this week. I do not remember about PGSS. I’m going to reject PGSE&T so hopefully that’ll put you on the acceptance list

Has anyone else been accepted?

@doldrum possibly. are you willing to post your real name here?

I’m just hoping whoever got into RSI from PA also applied to PGSS, and them turning down PGSS might put me in

I would rather this account be kept private. Maybe if I see you in the future I will inquire.

I was rejected from RSI, although I suspect someone on the lv arml team was accepted. Do you know know how many people are on the waitlist?

@doldrum‌ Congratulations! Are you in Lehigh or Northampton county? They are part of 2 separate Intermediate Units. I did not get my PGSS letter yet, though both acceptances and rejections were already sent out.

Thanks! Lehigh county (which schools exactly make this up?). Oh, so do they not send out waitlist letters at all?

@doldrum Are you from Parkland? (please do not reveal your actual name)

I do not know any acceptances from my school.

BTW I am not on the Regional Math Team. I participate more in Science Fair.

I know people waitlisted to PGSS.

I do not. I would say at maximum 29 (one from each colonial iu) but I would probably guess less; maybe around 10.
I know they have a policy of taking at least one student from each colonial iu though, so its feasible they have one alternate for each one

Not from parkland, although same pool of applicants. If you’re from parkland, do you know how many people applied?

Apologies; only my iu is the pa colonial iu
they are generally just called the pa ius (intermediate units)

@Mjag1898‌ I did not get any PGSS decision yet. Do you know if they stagger the mailings?

@agupte It’s possible, although everyone at my school and doldrum’s has heard.
If you don’t get the letter in a few days I would call

@doldrum I do not know of a lot, since many people in our school are going on a Spain trip this summer.

Hopefully many people drop out of PGSET to go to another place so I get accepted. But we’ll see…

I still did not get any PGSS decision yet. Maybe it got lost in the mail? If it is not here by Friday, I will call to find out, though they said they will send it up to the first week of April, according to the Application.

I am still shocked at some of the decisions for Governors Schools this year. Many others who I thought would easily get in did not (or got waitlisted). Maybe our grade is very competitive? 8-|
