I’m currently a junior, and as of right now, I intend on studying business in college. I just received word that I was accepted to Pennsylvania’s Governor’s School for Engineering and Technology. It’s a month long, and I’m not sure if I want to commit to this amount of time during the summer. Do you think this program could set me apart in college admissions if I go? Or will it look weird to admissions officers that I’m attending an engineering program when I’m going into business? Thanks!
Are you from PA? Have you heard about PFEW? It’s a week-long business simulation program at Lycoming college.
You should look into it. You need to apply soon.
If you didn’t want to do the governor’s school program, you probably should not have signed up for it. It’s very competitive so if you’re not interested you should let them know so that they can give your spot to someone else.
It wouldn’t look weird at all. I attended Governor’s School this past summer for instrumental music even though I’m likely going into biomedical or chemical engineering. I think it shows colleges that you have a variety of interests in fields that can broaden your knowledge in areas other than your main focus. And every business needs someone skilled enough to do some number crunching, and that’s exactly what someone with a knowledge of engineering brings to the table.
