Governor's School

How difficult is it to get into Governor's School? I'm from New Jersey and I'm thinking about applying there for this summer. It's going to be my first time and I never heard of it before. My guidance counselor told me I should apply, so I am.

What do they look for?

Is it similar to a college admissions process?

Feel free to comment!

i live in PA and from what i know about governor's school, some are easier acceptance-wise that others. For example teaching or agricultural science are much easier to get into that entrpenuership or sciences. Getting in is like a crapshoot, the #1 kid in my class applied to entrpenuership and also sciences and has everything going for him, he didn't get in. but a spanish kid in the top 10% with less impressive stats got into ag. science. it depends

i'm applying to NJ gov school as well for environment and international studies. what r u guys applying to?

I was wondering if i should use the same autobiography sketch for both since the one for environmental science didn't specifically say anything they required.

For NJ Governor's School, you may only apply for one. Thus, only environomental science OR international studies.

iloveledzepplin- Do you know anything about where International Studies in PA fits in terms of being easy/hard to get into?

oh our school let's us do both, and they choose the one whom they think is a stronger candidate for. so I'm doing app to both.

I think its a little harder to get into than ag sci and teaching, but it can be done...definately apply!

is it difficult to get in? is it impossible?

i'm just worried i won't get into the school of science.. =[

it said on the app that they are big on

PSAT scores
Grades
Extracirriculars
and at least a 90% on standardized tests.. like Terra Nova, HSPAs, etc..

I took the 10th grade terra nova last year and got a 96 overall.. i guess thats good?

actually the people from my school who got in for engineering/tech and general science program said that they were big on the essay.
