GPA 3.4 and 1380 SAT score

Hello,

I am soon going to be a senior in high school and I have somewhat decent grades, my GPA is of 3.4, and I earned 1380 points on the SAT.

My high school career has been rather unusual, since I moved from another country on the second half of my freshman year. It was an unexpected move, because I had family problems that transcend the realms of normal, and I have not had the easiest time adjusting to the American system.

I still want to attend university, earn a degree and do something with my life. Unfortunately my grades and test scores do not look hopeful at all. To top things off, I failed one semester of Algebra II and am in the process of recovering the missing five credits.

I am so scared about my future. I have thought about enrolling in a community college if I graduate, perhaps study there for a year and then attempt to transfer to a decent university.

Given my not-so-good transcript, what are my chances?

Well what really matters is which schools you are applying to. You should definitely try to raise your SAT, just buy some books and study. You can get at least a 1700+. You say you moved from another country? Colleges like international people and it’ll be even better if you’re an URM. Even if you aren’t, writing your college essay about your experience and your “adaption” would make a great topic. Also, a GPA of 3.4 isn’t bad. If you manage to raise your SAT score and right a great essay getting into a good college should not be that hard. Sure, don’t attempt the Ivies but top 50 is possible.

Id recommend community college. U cam transfer after a year or so. If u dont mind costs. California has a good, probably the best, cc to 4 yr transition
