GPA admits 3.1-3.3 without TAG?

Asphyxiac: It’s so shocking though! Is the 3.5+ for impacted majors? I’ve met people who got accepted with 3.28+ non tag and seen people on threads who got accepted with that GPA. Ah it makes me so nervous. I can’t wait until April to find out lol. Even with a substantial amount of applicants to UCSD, my friends and a couple of people on CC threads were accepted with 3.28+ to non impacted majors. This is gonna be a long wait.

Well, last year, both UCSD and UCSB processed applicants as ‘TAG applicants’ whether or not they checked off the ‘TAG’ box on the applications.

Basically, if you had your math and English done by Fall and fulfilled the TAG GPA requirement, you were processed as a TAG/priority applicant - so some people may have qualified for TAG, unbeknownst to them. It’s different this year. You have to specifically apply for TAG.

I was told this by a UCSB admissions officer on the phone in April of last year when I called to ask why I was denied admission.

edit: She basically said that b/c I didn’t finish my UC eligibility coursework by the end of Fall, I wasn’t considered a priority applicant and there simply wasn’t enough space left over after the other applicants to admit me.

Aw shucks. Stuff happens. I think it’ll be lighter this year because they won’t be doing what they did last year. You HAVE to apply for tag. I’m missing one igetc class and it won’t be done by spring. My counselor said I’m 90% in at UCSD and UCSB. Constantly reminding myself what my
Counselor said will ease my impatient self. Lol

I’m sorry to mention this, because it makes me quite pessimistic but I notice that each year the average gpa goes up, and percentage of admitted goes down so keep that in mind as well. :/

I agree  We will just have to wait.

I wish I would’ve taken the time to look into admitted stats earlier while in cc, when I saw the average gpa for psych at ucla I was shocked. I wish I would’ve known and worked harder.

LOL I agree! I 100% agree. I’m not even applying to UCLA. Even if I had a 4.0, I wouldn’t. Never really liked UCLA…idk why.

Ucla is my dream school but looking at those stats makes me mad hahaha. I know, I know, I should’ve worked harder to be more competitive.
I’m pretty much prepared to be rejected, I have no idea what I’ll do after that.

At least you tried! Look at it that way. Did you apply anywhere else? Or just UCLA?

Ucsd was my backup but I don’t really wanna go and I’m way behind on prereqs
Uci cause it’s close to home
Ucsb cause it’s pretty haha

I’m not interested in any of those schools.

I feel you. UCSD is my top choice. The other schools aren’t…but if I don’t get into SD with a 3.34, I’ll probably go UCSB :/

I applied 3.36 GPA with only UCLA and USC because my major is environmental studies the other UC’s don’t have that major. I know that I don’t have any chances… I am bit old student 26 years old. I dropped out high school and worked immediately because of family responsibilities. I worked about 7 years to support my younger for her tuition. I failed a lot of classes when I attended college first time. I did my best but my GPA is too low for my dream schools. However, I mentioned about my life at personal statements and wish to hear some good news…

Hey Bandie, there’s a UCLA transfer statistics profile of admitted students on google. It will tell you the average GPA of accepted students applying for a specific major. You should check it out.

Kitty at least Ucsb is so pretty you’ll probably have a lot of fun next to the beach.

I know I’m a pessimist, but lately I’ve been wondering is ucla even reads every personal statement, i assume they have a cutoff point. If they do I got a chance if they don’t I probably don’t.

Yeah, but it’s not my dream school. We’ll see.

Oh they read every single personal statement. Shocking…but they do. I kinda wonder if you have like a 3.1 GPA, would they bother to read it? My counselor says they will.

Wait? What exactly are the UC elegibility classes? Two English classes, four social science/art electives etc, and one transferable math class? I have completed all of these classes this fall semester. Does that mean I’ll be a priority applicant? I’ll complete IGETC by the end of spring. I’m only missing one class. I’m worrying so much :expressionless: I just want to get into a UC other than UCR or UCM.

I believe it Is the two English courses along with a statistics course. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I took calculus and business statistics so I’m good :)

UC Irvine also reads your personal statements.
I’m not sure why you think UC’s don’t consider extra curriculars, source?
This is the UC transfer matrix for last year. Lot of important info on there.

I was admitted to Spring at Cal with a 3.35, but a bunch of extenuating circumstances.

I was also admitted to Irvine without TAG. I was political science for both.
