gpa and class rank not calculated...disadvantage?

The title pretty much says at all. I go to a private school that doesn’t calculate gpa or class rank although my GPA is excellent and I’m pretty sure I’m 1/~100 for class rank. Yale is my first choice and I’m probably going to apply EA…Will it hurt my chances that these stats won’t be on my application?

I would assume that you receive grades in your courses and they don't figure out the GPA from there. If so ask your guidance counselor kindly to figure out this information to put on your report and if s/he refuses for whatever reason I'm sure Yale will calculate it for you when they assess your application and place you in a percentile. For instance if your GPA is a 4.0 you would fit in the Top 10% bracket and they would continue from there. I don't know if it would hurt you drastically since your school is withholding this information but I'm sure Yale would not handicap you for a ridiculous school policy.

Lots of private schools, like my D's, don't have class rank or GPA. It didn't hurt her a bit (she was accepted EA). Yale is smart enough to figure out where you stand!

but make sure you ask your guidance counsellor to include this info (that your school doesn't rank or calculate GPA, but HAD they done it, you'd be one of the top students) in his/her letter

okay, thanks everyone!
