How do schools estimate your class rank based on grade distribution and GPA? Say I am in the top 10% of my school with a 4.0 unweighted but my school profile lists that 36% of students receive 4.0 (I don't know if it is weighted or unweighted. I assume unweighted because it stops at 4). Does anybody know how this process works?

For example, UT Austin does this when schools do not provide ranks. But I know I am in the top 10% because I was am a Cum Laud.
Thanks!

This is why, except for Texas, class rank often means little. There’s nothing you can do about it no matter how they do it, so just eliminate it from your mind and worry about what you can control, your course selection and grades.

Wow, 36% of students receives 4.0 UW. That’s quite high.
My son’s school only ranges 3-5% histoirically.

@Mrmom62 Well that’s a bummer…

@SeventoCollege Yes, it might be because my school doesn’t give out A+ or the table might be weighted. Hopefully my top 10% will be seen/heard in awards and teacher/counselor recommendations.
