GPA and Overall Grades

First post :)
Ok, so I am a junior male in high school, and am starting to "freak out" about college... I think this is the best place to ask this, but I had a quick question for college admits and faculty.
I am a straight A student, but this trimester (yes, my school is odd) I am going to get a B in AP English Lang and Comp. I have never gotten a B before, so I am pretty frustrated.
My overall question is does this one grade matter? As long as one's gpa is high (mine will be over 4.4), do overall class grades impact admission?
I am planning on applying to a few ivy league schools, and I want to make sure my chances are still good.

Go to the Results threads from last year of the schools you’re interested in (often a sticky thread at the top of the forum). Yes, you have to have top grades, no they don’t have to be perfect. Best of luck and keep up the good work.

A single B is not going to make or break you.

ok that’s what I thought… I’ll have the gpa and such, I just wanted to make sure that a single B would kill me, as Ivy Leagues seem crazy. Thanks, I’ll go check out the results now.

Don’t freak out about 1 or 2 grades; you are obviously taking a challenging course load and you are pulling it off. Make sure you don’t lose focus on other things those colleges (Ivies and other highly selective schools) look for in an app: leadership, community service, or some hobby or interest that you have a deep passion and something to show for it (music, sports, writing, etc.).

Fortunately, I have most of that other stuff down… I am an officer on my school’s community service club, nhs member, lots of volunteer hours, intern at local hospital during summer, was captain of jv and now captain of club soccer team (5th in the state), so I think I’ll be all right.
