What SAT score would I need to make up for a 3.85 ~ 3.9 GPA?
Right now i'm half way through sophomore year with a 3.85 GPA, but I think I can get it up to a 3.9 or 3.92, I'm thinking worst case scenario. I'm Indian too, so ethnic disadvantage.
And Cornell just looks at the CR and M right?

…Do you mean Unweighted GPA?

What the hell is so bad about a 3.85 UW GPA?

No SAT Score will make up for a 3.85 GPA. No SAT Score will make up for any gpa.

3.9 is a worst case scenario? lol.
Your GPA is fine, but you’ll still need a decent SAT score no matter what.

if that is out of 4.0, you need to grow up.

i admire you for already thinking about your gpa and tests! but i agree, there is virtually no difference between a 3.8, 3.9, or even a 4.0.

As long as you are in the <3.7 range, it doesn’t make a difference. please do not think your gpa isn’t good enough! and you cannot calculate an SAT score to make up a gpa, thats not how it works.

cornell’s averages are slightly less than other ivies. i would shoot for a 650 at least in each section, at least. depending on your recs/essays and stuff. but you have sooo much time. if you are already thinking about it, odds are you are going to be fine

good luck :)

My friend you’re trying too hard, just relax and enjoy high school as much as you could without over stressing yourself. I have a 4.6 weighted GPA (3.7~ unweighed) and I still managed to get into the school. Have fun and pursue your own interests, that’s the most important thing that you should focus on currently xP.

Good luck in two years =)

How much did you score on the Math Section?

92 UW (with 2 APs, freshman - junior year) with a 1370 SAT and two 700s SAT IIs (600 CR and 770 M, 700 Chem and 720 Math II), acceptable to Cornell CALS?

Freshman : 90 and 95 UW (No honors)
Sophomore: 92 and 92.5 UW (2 Honors, math and chem)
Junior: 90.7 and 94.3 UW (2 APs and all Honors)

by the way, Asian + Male.

my gpa is like a 3.6- but 2300 SAT score…hmm? do i have a chance for early decision next year

why would you do ED to cornell if “iwantyale”

bc im gonna get rejected from yale…i want it…but have no chance cuz im not taht smart…its easier to get into cornell than yale

I never stressed about my GPA, extracurriculars, or class choices until the summer before college applications. In the end, I think that’s what allowed me to be successfully admitted to 11/12 schools I applied to; my application was a portrayal of exactly who I was and not some fake personality created for college admissions. The lesson here is that you should take high school as it comes and do what you enjoy to the fullest.

And the ethnic disadvantage is overplayed. I’m Indian too.

agreed with aseyelum.

and i got the same results, except 7/8

and im asian.

I was actually trying to crack a joke about the <3.7 that was supposed to be >3.7, but looks like nobody got it…

To the OP, don’t stress about it. To iwantyale, you should still apply to yale, the only way your truly going to have a 0.00% of admission is if you DON’T apply, however, you must be mistaken to apply to Cornell because you can’t get into Yale, using it as a “safety ivy” usually doesn’t turn out well. True Cornell may seem like an easier school to get into at face-value, but theres a simple reason for that (i.e. it’s a larger school). Cornell has 7 different colleges and each of them are unique, hence, more colleges = more majors/minors/classes, therefore, it has to have a better acceptance rate. Now, even though Cornell as a whole has a higher acceptance rate, if you were to separate the colleges’ acceptance rates you would realize that the acceptance rate really isn’t that high compared to other schools of the same caliber as some programs are just as, even more selective than programs at it’s peer institutions. So, please do not use Cornell as a “safety ivy” school and make sure that it is truly what you desire and not because u think it’s less selective, because Cornell really is a selective school with a wide variety of majors/minors to offer and just like HYPSM and others of the same caliber, produce some of the best programs that constantly place well in rankings.

@ Aseyelum and Feral 24, I’m just curious but what were your stats? Were they in the worry-range? XD

yeah, i’d still apply EA to yale.

cornell has a higher accept rate because it is twice the size of most ivies, but gets about the same amount of apps

i’m not gonna say my stats exactly because they dont really matter, but they were definitely in the average range of cornell applicants, per college board stats

When I applied I had 10.9 on an 11 point scale (where 11 = A) and 2340 SAT. Not in the worry range at all, my extracurriculars were my main weakness.

OP, why the hell do you think SAT and GPA form some sort of a trade-off?

While it’s true there’s no direct “trade-off” between GPA and SAT, a lackluster SAT score can often be overlooked by a superior GPA since some people test poorly, but there is no excuse for a substandard GPA.
