GPA at Emory

I completely disagree with the people who say that “if you study” you will get a 3.9+. Honestly, I didn’t put my best foot forward first semester in terms of studying. I was always procrastinating but I always ended up doing all of my work. I’m double-majoring in English/Philosophy with plans to attend Law School and please, take this from me, if you pick the wrong teachers, you will get screwed over. My majors are obviously extremely subjective and papers in college turn into your biggest nightmare. I was the best writer at my competitive private school (top 25 percent went to top 20 schools), acclaimed by all of my teachers. Here, some professors who are full of themselves have problems with my “overly complicated” writing style and thus, my GPA suffers. I still pulled a 3.5 with mediocre efforts in 200-level classes first semester but I should have pulled close to a 3.9 if the subjectivity factor (which, SURPRISE, SURPRISE Pre-Meds, doesn’t factor in the sciences) hadn’t gotten in the way. You have to pick your courses AND teachers carefully.

^^^ Weird coincidence, because I plan on double majoring in English and either Philosophy or Psychology(right now I’m leaning towards Psychology).
And, plan on going into law school with them.

I might have some questions for you about those specific classes over at Emory, if that’s okay with you.

You can ask me questions all you want. PM me and I’ll give you my name so you can add me on FB and we can communicate through there.

Okay. tenchar

Warning, psyche can be tough. I think it’s tougher here than at many other schools due to the heavy overlap with the neuroscience department (in terms of pedagogy, course content, etc…). I’ve heard this review from many transfers who were psyche majors at their other schools.

Not true. My B goes to Emory. The time to drop a class without a W is very short. If you put in the hours you will do fine. It’s certainly not a school where you can party hard every night and expect to do well…your classmates are all pretty smart.
