Does anyone know whether UM publishes data on the average GPA of its students (not applicants' high school GPAs, but GPAs of enrolled undergraduate students earned at UM), for employers or grad schools? Thanks in advanced.

That would be really interesting to see. Especially after being told by a prof that students "don't like" to get anything less than a B on assignments. I'm wondering if the average student there really does that well, or if there is perhaps even a tendency towards grade inflation....something to think about when wondering how the GPA will affect a grad school app.

I'm interested in this as well. There seem to be a lot of rumors going around, but very little in the way of real information.

I'm in the CoE, and most of our undergrad classes curve to a B- (numerically, curved at 2.7-2.9). So perhaps that number is close to the average for engineering majors, but it could be impacted by non-engineering classes.

I've heard average engineering GPA is around 2.95, but don't know about for other colleges. You can get an idea by looking at the requirements to graduate with honors. For that:

cum laude (~top 25%): 3.20-3.49 (engineering), 3.671-3.818 (LS&A)
magna cum laude (~top 10%): 3.50-3.74 (engineering), 3.819-3.924 (LS&A)
summa cum laude (~top 3%): 3.75-4.00 (engineering), 3.925-4.000 (LS&A)

MatthewM04 - this is exactly what I'm looking for. Can you give me the link to where you found the requirements to graduate with honors?

Thanks!!!

The university wide average GPA is around 3.25, as you can see from this site, which compares university and greek gpas:

For engineering: Michigan Engineering | General Information

For LS&A (its based off fixed percentage of class rank, so it changes annually):
