GPA Below 3.0

Ok, folks. I know a lot of you out there have outstanding stats and are pretty much shoe ins for the schools you applied to (not always the case, i'm sure).

That being said, I wanted to start this thread to see if there were any others out there like me who have the crappy GPA and still chose give it a shot at transferring anyways. The minimum GPA to transfer to many of the UC"s is 2.4 anyways.

It'd be interesting to know where you applied and where you've been accepted and/or rejected.

I'll start with myself

GPA: 2.6
Applied to: UCSC, UCSD, UCI, and UCB
Accepted into: UCSC
Major: Poli Sci
Pending: UCSD, UCI, and UCB
IGETC: Yes
Pre-Reqs: Finished after this semester

Hey if it makes you feel any better I applied with a 2.7. But I'm pending and I only applied to ucd, ucsb, and ucr. I went form a 2.1 to a 2.7 during fall 08. <- Which is why I didn't apply to ucsc since their strict about applying with a 2.4.

My EC's are actually pretty good. I went through an enormous amount of personal stuff during the entire year of 2007 which I explain in my essays. I started out with a 4.0 then took a nose dive and have been trying to pull myself out of that wreckage. Hopefully they might take it into account. I have 10 A's, 3 B's, 6 C's and then 2 D's from Stat's. (Don't ask my transcript looks like it's been to hell and back). Because of the D's (and I think one of them is replacing an F too...) I have a really low gpa. After this semester I'll probably have over 100 units. And I have 16 unites from Advanced Placement Exams too. So you're not alone...but I don't know if I'll get as lucky as you.

Yeah here's my situation ... Went to CC in Oregon for a year and a half and moved back to California over the summer. Brought with me a 2.67 (got one F and one D and that really hurt me). Fall term got a 3.4 and that brought me up to a 2.89. This term I have a 4.0 but I know it doesn't really matter that much.

I really wasn't sure what my chances would be but I decided to just apply and give it a shot.

My stats are ...

GPA: 2.89
Applied to: UCD, UCI, UCSB, UCR, and UCSC
Accepted: UCR
Pending: UCD, UCI, UCSB, and UCSC
Major: Psychology
Units: 66
IGETC: Yes
Pre-Reqs: Missing 2

I am hoping I get into UCI and UCSB but I know it's a longshot. The suspense is literally killing me! Such an intense process!

Good luck to you guys!

yeah i have a GPA 3.2 and its so much lower than many on the site...i am a psychology major and philosophy minor and applied to UCD, UCLA and UCSB...taking a leap of faith for UCLA ...i have all my prereqs done, IGETC done, and major requirements fulfilled...so im hoping for the best
still waiting to hear from all...and am very unsure about who will and will not take me...

my friend transferred to UCSB 2 years ago into Business with a 2.9, IGETC, and his AA in business comm. No work experience or EC's.

I made it into UCI with a 3.1 as a philosophy major. Still pending @ UCSD.

Keep the hope alive!

I'm amazed at all of the stats for most of you that were admitted. You guys must have had some compelling essays or incredible ec's.

Congrats to your admissions!

i think i'm going to end up with a 3.2 by the time i apply next fall........... i feel really crappy

pleaseeeeee ucsd admit me. haha

If it making you better, i'm failing with a 1.6 GPA and not doing too well in my classes. I'm a total wreck.

I made it to UCSB ...still waiting on UCLA and UCD...good luck and dont strain urself a lot

GPA: 2.8
Applied: UCD, UCSC, UCSD, UCSB, UCR
Accepted: UCSC, UCR
Pending: UCD, UCSD, UCSB
Major: Poli-sci
IGETC: Yes
Major Pre-reqs: Missing 3
Zero EC
Essays: 7/10

I'm on the same boat.....

I'm dreading for the results, but here are my stats:

Applied: UCI, UCSD, UCLA
Accepted: UCR (didn't apply, but got accepted)
GPA: 2.97
Major: Business Econ/ Economics

AHH i'm so scared for the results, although my first choice is Irvine. Hopefully i hear from them soon!

I'm flipping out too, I'm scared about the admissions, UCI and UCSD NEED TO COME OUT NOW!

Applied: UCD, UCSB, UCSD (top choice), UCI, UCLA, UCB (Last two for the hell of it, it's a crapshot but oh well)
Accepted: UCR, UCSB
GPA: 2.86
Major: Poli-Sci
IGETC: done
Pre-reqs: only done for UCSD, missing one for Irvine and SB.

Retadin: When did u get accepted to Ucsb? I have a very very similar Gpa (history major though) and haven't heard back from them yet. I want to know their decision the most out of all the schools I applied to (except Ucla).

my gpa was 3.1 when i applied for the ucs, and my g.p.a is now 3.28 after i updated all my coursework. I would say anyone in this thread has a good chance at getting into one of the ucs.

applied: uci, ucsd (pending), ucsb(pending), cal state fullerton(i know it's not a uc, still pending), ucla
accepted: uci
major: sociology
igetc: completed
units completed: 68
Pre reqs: i am missing 2 pre reqs for uci, missing 2 for ucsb, done for ucla and ucsd.
essay: for my essay i wrote about how a major in sociology would be beneficial to me, and why i want to become a cop.

Applied: UCD, UCSB, Humbolt State

Accepted: Humbolt, UCD
Rejected: UCSB

I got accepted to UCD today! Yesss! Which was my first choice. I’m ecstatic!

GPA:2.7
EX: Many
Work: yes 20 hrs
Essays: 9/10

I’m so stoked!

Good Luck to everyone :-)

So UCSC may except a student who has a gpa ranging between 2.4 and 3.0, right?

I have a 3.3 right now but will def. be 3.45 by end of Fall which is when they start looking at Apps.

Applying to: UCLA, UCI, UCSD, UCB (Maybe UA, USC, NYU, depending on how much I feel like mounting up debt)
Dream: UCLA
True Reach: UCB
Most likely will get in: UCI, UCSD

Great EC’s
Amazing work experience
Student Government
Sharp upward grade trend
9/10 essay (english major)

Just because you have a low GPA does not mean you can’t write a great Essay, plus if your grades are upward trends UC’s love that crap. Also, get in any EC you can before applying.

I have a 2.1 -> 3.37 after fall quarter… Should I even apply this year or wait until next fall to apply to transfer…

Absolutely apply … what school are you shooting for? ucla?
