*** is with everyone not including their major? THAT IS THE DECIDER

sorry 2.1–>3.7
Anthropology major for UCLA…

First, I thought a 2.1 gpa to 3.37 jump in one semester was huge, but then you went ahead and jumped from 3.37 to 3.7 in half an hour. Now that is what I call a steep upward trend.

Nobody can jump from 2.1 to 3.37 unless they have only attended one semester. The only way this is true is if the guy has less than 30 units. The more units you have, the harder it is to raise your GPA.

My friend has a 2.3 right now and will have a 2.7 by the end of fall. For the 2.4 that uc’s require, is it the gpa when you’re applying or the gpa at the end of fall?

Mt19871212-it’s required to have a 2.4 for ucsc when applying?

this may sound like a dumb question, but i have never considered the pass or no pass option for a grade. someone on here just made a comment about how the pass/no pass would be the last attempt at significantly raise their gpa. so my question is, how much does pass/no pass raise your gpa?

^Dunno what you mean. You can only opt for P/NP like halfway into the quarter, and after that period it is too late.

I think people meant that if you are getting a C in a class, you could take it P/NP and this C (which would lower your GPA) would not be counted. After you receive your grade, however, it is too late.

yeah i just realized i read the post wrong…i was confused cause it really didnt make sense

lovelyy they dont even look at your app until Fall grades are updated and sent. So its the Fall GPA that matters not the end of summer.

Njoy, I wrote that post. I meant that if I take this class P/NP it would be easy and I could focus on other courses. However it would not affect my GPA. But If I take it straight up I have a chance to raise my GPA, but also Its a risk because anything other than an A in a 5 unit course when you already have a 3.3 would LOWER your GPA. So if I take it I MUST get the A and the reward is a big jump in GPA, if I go pass not pass my GPA will not jump as high. Get it?

If you want to raise your GPA in a short time you MUST get A’s in classes with high units like 5, because they pump out a possible 20 quality points. Whereas 3 unit courses can only pump out a maximum of 12 quality points. Basically, working your butt off getting two A’s in two english courses worth 3 units each is the equivalent of getting a single A in a foreign language course. These classes are very important, they can really hurt you or really help you. Even if your not an english major you can still take a couple 5 unit courses to sky rocket your GPA.

yeah i noticed that after i posted it, i just read your post wrong.

ucla cancelled undie run lol just thought id let the hopeful bruins know haha

I’m in the same boat as all of you guys but I thought applying to UC’s required above a 3.0 Gpa unweighted?
How is this possible?

I know this is an old thread but it might be pretty cool to try and revive. I’ll go:

Applied: UCI, UCSD, UCSB, UCR
Accepetd: UCR
Pending: Well the rest.
GPA: 2.84
Major: Civil Engineering
Prereq’s: Done
IGETC: Done
EC’s: Pretty good…

3.03 GPA
Applied: UCSD, UCLA, UCR, UCI, UCB (family heritage purpose, I know I’m not getting in)
Accepted: UCR
Major: Political science
IGETC: complete
No TAG
All pre-reqs done.
Pending at UCLA, UCI, UCSD, UCB.

I have a 3.06 and I still applied to UC Davis as a design major. No TAG or IGETC. They still accepted me. Davis is/was my dream school…but I am going to Sac State because I can’t afford Davis financially and because Sac State is actually better for my major. There is still hope among us…I guess I must have charmed UCD admissions with my essays or ECs.

"I’m in the same boat as all of you guys but I thought applying to UC’s required above a 3.0 Gpa unweighted?
How is this possible? "

yes, but that is for high school. If you’re in community college, you just need a 2.4, but some UCs require that GPA to be a little higher to be competitive.

Any bio majors out there with a 3.00-3.3 GPA get into any uc’s?
My GPA right now is a 2.97 but that’s because I screwed up in a math class. When I retake the math class and do better during spring quarter and summer session my GPA will go up.

None that i’ve heard of… heard of chemical engrs and chemistry majors getting into UCSD and UCI with GPA’s below a 3.1 (but above a 3.0)

well I don’t know about BIO but I got into UCSB and UCD last year with a 2.8 as a physics major… I ended up spending another year at my CC because or personal reasons so my GPA was higher this time around but I still go in last year. So I wouldn’t be TOO worried unless you are trying to Berk or LA… Asking for “chances” from other students is kind or pointless, i understand that everyone wants reassurance but honestly we have no clue. Good luck! and I hope that my low GPA makes you feel better haha

if it makes you feel better i got in with a 2.97
bio major
B in physics series
c and b in chem
A in calc series
C in first bio and a D in the second series, long story to this
but they said as long as I get a B in second series bio my admission is good.

I have a 2.1 and I graduated from college with my AA and I am looking into transferring to a CSU college. They require a 2.6 to be considered a senior and I am freaking out and dwelling in my self pity. I am freaking out because I am ready to leave the community college that I am in now and I don’t want to spend anymore time there. I’m worrying that I may have to spend another 4 years at Reedley when I could be spending them at Fresno State.
